Fighting a medical bill
I'm so frustrated from now. I really need some advice ...
DH has his a small business and we were paying Care Connect almost $2,000 per month for health insurance for our family. At the end of 2017, Care Connect went out of business.
I went to urgent care twice in December and received a bill today for $750. It looks like Care Connect paid NOTHING towards the visits. The only deduction on the bill was my co-payments.
How do I file an appeal with a company that is no longer in business? The urgent care center I went to was approved by Care Connect (I had be there in the past and they paid the bills) so I know I am not our of network.
I'm going to call Northwell tomorrow but I'm so angry at paying so much and receiving so little for my money.
ETA To anyone that has been following this thread, I called Care Connect today and they had no records of the two claims. They gave me a PO Box in Alabama to give to Northwell. I call Northwell, explain everything to them and they say they received a statement from Care Connect that I was "ineligible" for these services (going to Urgent Care for the flu??) . Obviously, there is a severe miscommunication here but am I on the hook for this bill?

December 31st. My office visits were December 1st and 20th. Totally weird, right?

I would call the number on the bill and say you were covered under care connect and to resubmit the bill for payment.

Re: Fighting a medical bill
Did you have a yearly deductible? If so, you may have been charged (a lower Careconnect fee) since you did not meet that deductible. But I don't think Careconnect went out of business. They no longer provide insurance benefits to many self employed individuals (although I think they still may for a select few). I believe if you call them, they should still have representatives that can help you.

Care connect still exists. They just aren't renewing contracts. So Dr's stop accepting Care Connect when their contracts are up, and businesses cannot renew with them. Our company still has Care Connect until May, but you have to be careful to make sure your Dr is still accepting it before an appointment.

Re: Fighting a medical bill
I don’t know about that specific plan, but as a provider, there was another plan that went bankrupt but bc we were under contract, we were told we have to continue to accept patients with the plan. We were told we can not bill the patients, however we still have not received any payment for those visits almost two years later. Maybe the doctor is billing you for that, but I think they legally really can’t hold you responsible if your plan is bankrupt. Maybe call the state attorney general health care department if that’s the case. It’s an all around bad situation for everyone.
