how do i tell guests about parking

i'm including a small card with the invitation to SO's surprise party to give guests a heads up on a couple of details.

the main thing i want to let them know is parking. the hotel/restaurant has limited parking, but there's a large parking lot around the corner.

how do i word the following:
* parking has a fee, the restaurant does not validate.
* parking is about a block away. should i include a small map?

the manager i'm dealing with at the venue suggested this template that they give brides:

"Parking at The FIFTH is limited and valet only so arrive early to get a parking spot. Payment for Valet is to be handled at The FIFTH before leaving. Once the lot is full, people will be redirected to park at Anaheim GardenWalk which is right across the street. The FIFTH does not validate for Anaheim GardenWalk."

I would use the wording they gave you. It's clear and covers it all

How much is the Fifth charging people to park vs the other lot across the street?

the Fifth's valet parking is $6 (plus tip, i'm assuming)

the GardenWalk's parking is per hour
* First Hour - Complimentary
* After the First Hour (or any fraction thereof) - $3.00/hour
* Convention Center - $16.00 flat no overnight parking
* 24 Hour Maximum - $24.00
* Lost Ticket - $24.00/day

how many people are you having? I would prob pay for parking for them if it was like 50 people.

WOW -- that is crazy. I was going to suggest you paying for your guests... but that is pricey. Maybe you can negotiate down the valet if you pay upfront

yes. it's limited because the parking lot is for the restaurant and a hotel.

if i had known this before signing the contract, i might have not chosen this venue.

i attempted to pre-pay valet. they won't allow it.
i called the parking structure to find out if something can be done. with my guest list, i'm guestimating about 40-ish vehicles. the man i spoke with told me that he believes something can be done. he's going to call me back with info.

You can't be the first person to host a party there. Speak with a manager and get it sorted. That's crazy!

Totally agree. I would not be too thrilled as a guest that has to walk a block and pay if im going to a party at a resturant. How many people are going?

Re: how do i tell guests about parking

Give the wording the venue told you. Maybe include something extra for handicapped guests? People can walk the extra block. That’s life. But maybe I’m being a bit rude?

Do that and put it to back of your mind. That’s it. Hands wiped clean. I don’t think anyone would refuse a bday invite bc of parking. They need to find their own way to figure that out. Cater to them, but not too much if that makes sense.

I agree. I think it's that when you are from Long Island you just automatically assume that their will be a parking lot wherever you go.
It's different in the cities. I am sure this happens all the time when you host an event in NYC or other major cities.
Same thing.
Nothing you can do about it other that offer to pay for the guests parking but not sure how that would work logistically in this case.

Exactly. I know the OP is in Cali, but I woudln’t even offer to pay for parking. That is the job of the guests. I wouldn’t expect anyone to pay for my parking for an event/party. You do the party and that’s it. Yeah, parking might suck, but give them info and that’s it. Their job is to show up and be at a memorable event.

I went to a party the other week, and I got directions. I took public transport and that was it. I entered it into Google maps and figured it out myself because I’m a human.

Don’t be too accommodating! I mean you are throwing the party. It’s up to them to get the google map details. I mean, you could give directions, but that’s all you have to do. Throw in the parking details and let them figure it out.

i completely understand and agree.
in looking into it all, i thought i might work out a deal with the parking structure as a courtesy to my guests. it's a no-go.

i'm including the verbiage, the $$ amount expected, and a small/simple map... so the older guests have an idea of "leave parking lot, turn left, cross the street to restaurant."

Re: how do i tell guests about parking

I think the wording they gave you is god. I'd just appreciate the heads up. I recently got a wedding invite with no directions or parking info & both the ceremony & reception are at non traditional places. Chat Icon

I guess they figure people will look it up, which I did, but the reception place actually has different instructions for people attending events vs regular visitors & you actually enter on a different road, so I figure that would be good to know.
