$150/week for propane

So the company that serviced this house prior wants to charge me 150/week for a tank whether or not it is all used. that is their terms. I have 2 of the tall tanks out back.

Is that reasonable? I use gas for heat, dryer and stove. I am going to switch to electric for the stove and dryer honestly if it is that much.

Sounds waaayyy tooooo high. where I lived before my oil was 200/month and electric was around 160/month.
so 600/month for propane will send me to the madhouse

So if you’re on vacation you get charged for a full tank, even if not a drop was used? That’s absurd. I would shop around.

What company are you using ? I’m going to check my records and give you the name of the company we are using now. We only use propane for cooking gas so obviously it’s a lot less - but we used it for heat in our old house in w Babylon and it was never that much $

That sounds off.
We have a propane tank for our pool heater and we don't pay a weekly fee for the tank.
We do have to agree to buy a set amount of propane each year and if we don't, they send us a bill at the end of the year for the difference.

Does this company own the tank? If they do tell them to come get it and purchase a tank from another company.

A company like Paraco Gas will sell you a tank. Probably run around 1000-1200 installed but then you own it and can get gas delivered from anybody you want. I bought my tank from Paraco but now get my gas deliveries from Petro. Costs me $120 or so in gas every six months. I have gas for my dryer and cooking.

I own the 3 tall tanks...they came with the house but only 2 are hooked up and when one finishes then I would just turn the dial to the other one.
They said each and every wednesday they will switch a tank out for $150 regardless.

I will definitely call around.

Get rid of them- they sound like a huge rip off.

We use Ideal Bottled Gas. It's about 100 a month for stove, dryer, water heater (but we are a family of 2 and only do 2 loads of laundry a week.)

I rented a house that ran off of propane for heat and hot water and I didn't have a charge for the tank AT ALL! They shouldn't charge you for that period, just the gas you use. Bay Gas was the company that we used, although I hated their customer service. I dreaded calling them every time. That sounds ludicrous.

$150/week? Guy is outta his mind!

I actually have two tanks. One is Paraco (originally Island Propane) and the other is Starlight.

They fill it maybe a few times a year (if that). And bill me once it fills. Granted I only use it for Stove right now and Generator (when needed). So that is why a little goes a long way for us; but still.

I am sure the people you call will give you a price you will be pretty happy with.

Where do you live? I live on the east end and use Peconic Propane, they are great to deal with.

We use Atlantic Bottle Gas and are pretty happy with them. We use propane for our dryer, stove & bbq. The price is nothing like that!!

I'm in Babylon. I called around and the prices I've been quoted really are night and day. I don't know how they get away charging that price.
