Social media threats after Florida shooting
A message to the students who posted these: it's not a joke. From: https://patch.com/new-york/rockvillecentre/s/gcxit/police-respond-to-4-long-island-schools?utm_source=alert-breakingnews&utm_medium=email&utm_term=weather&utm_campaign=alert
Police responded to four Long Island schools on Friday to investigate threats made on social media as well as a reported hit list.
All four incidents were either deemed non-criminal or unfounded, but there's heightened awareness over any potential threats just two days after a gunman killed 17 people, including a Long Island native credited with saving students' lives, at a Florida high school.
Here's what police were investigating on Long Island Friday:
Lake Ronkonkoma
Suffolk Police responded to Samoset Middle School regarding a student's social media post. In a phone call to district parents Friday morning, Sachem Superintendent Ken Graham said there was a threat made on social media allegedly posted by a Samoset student. Police said the post was determined to be non-criminal, but Graham said the student who made the post had been identified and "appropriate disciplinary measures have been taken."
Port Jefferson
Suffolk Police responded to Port Jefferson High School after an "alleged and vague threat was made via social media" against the school, Port Jefferson Superintendent Paul Casciano said in a message on the district's website. Police said the message posted on Snapchat was determined to be non-criminal in nature.
Plainview
A high school student at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School was interrogated by police for a "disturbing" social media post, school officials said in a letter to parents. The post, which featured guns and racist remarks, was brought to the attention of staff at the school, the district said. Patch reached out to Nassau Police who said no arrest was made."Nothing became of it," a NCPD spokesperson said.
Bellport
Suffolk Police received a report that there was a hit list at Bellport High School. The report was thoroughly investigated and it was determined to be unfounded, police said.

These people that make empty threats to get attention and disrupt classes need to be punished harshly. A slap on the wrist because the threat was determined to be unfounded is not enough.

Not enough is right
The Florida shooters posts weren’t enough to do anything either
I’m sorry. They need real punishments and to be watched like hawks by authorities now. You did it to yourselves. No more “time outs”. want to make big boy threats? You get big boy consequences.

Exactly. Just like you can't say fire in a theater, or you know what on a plane (I'm even afraid to type it). You should be very afraid of threats like these. And more action should be taken against these threats, as empty as they may seem.

Social media threats after Florida shooting
I just came across an article that the district in our town has approved to have armed officers in all schools in the district and even after that decision there was a student arrested for making online threats.
