Which has better pricing, Dicks or Modells?
Or maybe it doesn’t matter?
We need bats, gloves, etc...
Looking for a 5 & 8 yr old.

Re: Little League Equipment

We have found Modell's to be slightly less expensive however we think ****'s has a better selection.

Don't forget a helmet, cleats, and a chest protector! :)

Re: Little League Equipment

My DH orders everything online.. but make sure you check what type of bat your league uses. My town just updated a certain thing about a bat for my DS, so we had to buy another $300 bat after I just bought one this fall, I was not happy!

also check that the leagues info is update to date, the LL governing body issued new specs for bats last summer, I think it was.

This is true, we had to buy new bats as well. Most leagues require the USA logo bats. Most stores should know this by now but also, not sure it would apply yet for your son's age.

Yes, it does! They sent us a list of regulations re: bats.
Thanks for all of the advice, everyone. We got a few things at ****'s with a coupon, but even with that discount, most things were cheaper through Amazon.

Do you find that the expensive bats make a big difference? My son plays travel BB and he's begging for a bat that costs $250. He's actually not a great hitter and my husband adamantly refuses to buy him an expensive bat. I'm just wondering if there is really a difference at this age. He just turned 10. TIA

We have to as well... we didn’t spend that much but we bought DS a nice bat next year that’s ineligible.

I don’t know if it’s the price of the bat but the size and weight. We have a bat store near us where you can try bats out before you buy - maybe try someplace like that for your son Lulu?

ETA - I feel Dicks has a better selection that Modell’s.

Personally I do think this is one of the cases where you get what you pay for. My son was very lucky to have an older cousin who was a baseball star so we inherited some pricey bats. The more expensive bats are made with different materials. Of course, the bat alone isn't going to make someone a hitter but better bats do have better balance in their weight and they feel better in your hand, plus the ball comes off of it differently.

At 10 and playing travel, I do think it’s a good investment for your DS. My DS is 9, and the fall was the first time he played travel and my DH talked me into an expensive bat for him, and he was crushing the ball, something about the cork in the bat and wind resistance. My DH played D1 baseball in college, so he buys my DS everything baseball related, and he always brings up the bat and glove being the most expensive but most needed items, bc he knows I’m cheap and need to get my head around the number months in advance Chat Icon

I will say, hitting clinics are a better investment for a child that age. If you only want to spend a lot somewhere, that’s where I would put it, bc your DS can always borrow bats but the mechanics in a swing is what makes a hitter, not the bat.
