baby shower spinoff
because, why not lol
how are co-ed baby showers done?
my second cousin is finally pregnant. she's been trying for a while and has had a rough go with ivf. everyone is very happy that she's about 15 weeks along and everything is going well.
she, of course, wants her husband to be part of the festivities.
how does one plan a co-ed shower?

Re: baby shower spinoff
My DH would kill me if I made him go to a baby shower.
I don’t think you can have a typical baby shower if it’s coed. Men I know just wouldnt oooh and ahhhh over a cute onesie or want to play bingo or any other baby shower game
Maybe she should ask her DH if he wants to be there before it gets planned that way and him And all his friends are like huh?. The dad to be usually brings her and picks her up. So he’s kinda involved.

Re: baby shower spinoff
The ones I have heard of have usually been like a backyard BBQ where the guys can go off and play horseshoes or bocce and drink beers while the mom to be opens the gifts with the girls.

That's so unfair. I would wistfully stare at the guys with beer and horseshoes. I would probably cry TBH

I went to one like that, but because it was a casual BBQ and not tables in a confined space, you could wander, drink, talk to the guys etc. I think I took pictures. That's usually my go-to defense mechanism.
They didn't have shower games or anything--it was basically like any other BBQ , with a brief period of gift opening, that mostly the mom to be's mother & sisters were paying attention to.

I'm not saying I wouldn't migrate over there myself.... LOL It might actually make a shower more tolerable!

I wanted a co-ed baby shower but it was shot down. I was hoping for a bbq without the normal boring shower stuff. Basically a bbq that people bring baby gifts to. I hate showers.

Re: baby shower spinoff
Another option is to ask guests to not wrap gifts and just leave them out on display...so no gift opening.

My family does this a lot but it’s usually a big party with a dj. I actuallty didn’t attend a normal all girls baby showers till I was in my 20s.

My sisters had a coed one. It’s a cultural thing. Her BF is Dominican and they always are coed. It’s a giant party. Some have DJs and everything.

I had a co-ed baby shower in my backyard. We had it catered, guys hung out on the patio, we also had tables set up under a tent, people brought their kids, it was very casual.

We had a dinner party "shower" at a restaurant with about 30 people family & friends.... no gift opening. I've also been to backyard BBQ baby showers, and big ones with a DJ at a hall, that both men& women were invited to.

We had one at a restaurant. We opened gifts in front of everyone and it was a nonissue. It took us 3 years and 3 rounds of IVF to get pregnant so we wanted to celebrate. Plus we had a lot of people coming in from out of town.

This is basically what we did for mine. I figured if I had to suffer through a shower then so did DH.
My mom set up an obstacle course where the men went up against the women. They had to run with the doll in a stroller and then change a diaper and then they would switch off. I think she had a trophy for the winning team. Everyone seemed to like it.
We did open gifts in front of everyone but we did it during dessert.

This was the same as one we went to.

Re: baby shower spinoff
We hosted a co-ed shower for our friends. We just had a BBQ at the house. We did some activities that you could participate in or not- decorating onesies, match the celeb to their baby, and something else I can't remember. It was pretty low key and guys came. I left it up to the parents to be if they wanted to open gifts and they did. The dad to be was hysterical when opening gifts... his reaction to things like nipple cream and nursing bras was priceless.

my sister did this. It was co-ed and was an outdoor "baby-que"... We got a keg, brought a bunch of lawn games, and hired a bbq company to make burgers and stuff. It was alot of fun, but it was a rain or shine event. We got lucky with the weather, but if it rained it would have been terrible lol

Re: baby shower spinoff
I think a co-ed shower would be MORE fun than a traditional one. It can me more casual with no stupid games, just a fun party where everyone is hanging out. When it's time for gifts, whoever wants to watch can or everyone can feel free to move about and socialize. I don't look at a co-ed shower as any different than any other kind of party you would throw. Food, fun, music, socializing...............sounds good to me! Go for it!
