NEED some positives--- GOOD things about having kids??

ok- so i NEED some positive things right now.

I've spent the past few weeks cleaning up after sick kids, listening to them fight during snow days/ delayed openings, arguing with them about why they have to glue 100 pom-poms on a t shirt for the "100th Day of 1st Grade!", wrestling them through writing their 4-letter names on valentine's cards, and just general "stuff".....

I'm about to lose it HAHAHAHA so i need reminders of the GOOD parts of having kids!! Chat Icon

LOL
Winters are rough.
The winters here are LONGGG too.
We always say we can't wait for summer so they can be outside, we have the pool and the beach, and in general everyone is happier and less stir crazy. And less sick.

I feel your pain. And I only have one and she is generally very well behaved. (generally. She has her moments! Chat Icon )

the hugs
the "i love you mama! from here to the entire galaxy to the moon and back"
the silly stories
the big smiles when they do something good
when they try to help you in the kitchen
catching them explaining life to their toys

Ugh I had a meltdown yesterday! I could have written the same post! I had to argue with my kindergartener as to why she has to glue 100 snowflakes on a poster lol. I also have an almost 3 year old and my 2 year old nephew every day! And I'm just about 39 weeks pregnant. We are going nuts inside!! I have been yelling way more than I care to admit and I feel horrible!

The weather sucks! Kids are bored and feel the same way we do. I can’t wait to until it’s 60 degrees, sun is shining and it’s light out until at least 7.

Go in and look at your kids sleeping. Nothing sweeter than that. I snuggle up next to mine for a minute or 2 before I go to bed. It’s my favorite time of the day and it always makes all the craziness of the day fade away.

I always say that when she is asleep she looks like the baby she was- it's like her face transforms back to that baby face even though when she is awake her face has changed so much and looks so much more mature and more like a girl.
It's like some kind of magic! I could stare at her all night.

If I did that my DD would no longer be sleeping!

My favorite time of day is after we read books before bed she asks if “we can hang, mommy?” And she tells me about her friends at school and asks about random things like when she can “big girl sleep” (get a bed) and why she doesn’t have a brother.

That’s what makes the whining and refusal of food and breaking of things and constant messes worth it.

But she’s still brotherless (and sisterless) for the foreseeable future.

My DS can be the absolute sweetest child on the planet.

He LOVES to cuddle and give out hugs and kisses. I love when he tells me that he loves me to infinity. Anytime we do anything as a family, he announces it. Like, "family hug!" His laugh is contagious. I love that he can get excited about the most every day things. I love that he speaks the truth.

Kids can be so sweet & innocent and we can still shelter them when they are very young. Always have to treasure these moments as long as we can. The other day, my DD read a sign on the road that said "Don't Drink & Drive" and she asked me is it bad to drink and drive because you are looking down and opening the bottle and not paying attention to the road? I then had the conversation with her about alcohol lol...

I also think it's so amazing how children are color blind.
DD has 2 best friends and she said to me- it's so cool how all 3 of us have different color skin.

Racism is definitely something that is taught, unfortunately.

I love the innocence of a child who has no preconceived prejudices and just loves people for who they are.

Go look at some photos on your phone or computer of them. It makes it all come back...

Lol... and kids are actually color BLIND. My DS thinks he’s Asian. He’s 7. No clue that he’s not. Hysterical.

DS is 14. He is turning into a man. He's almost a clone of me. Chat Icon
We have intellectual discussions about a huge range of topics. He helps me out with a lot of projects around the house. We go camping once a month with Boy Scouts, and he's usually my navigator.
He's taller than me now, so I have him reach for things that are too high for me.... Chat Icon

He really is turning out to be someone that I truly enjoy hanging out with. Chat Icon

Re: NEED some positives--- GOOD things about having kids??

My almost 2 YO has been especially cranky lately, but his hugs are seriously the best and he grabs my face and gives me the biggest kisses!

My 2 DS share a room, and my DS1 reads before bed, so now my DS2 takes a book with him into his bed and my older DS reads to him, it’s seriously so cute!

We had a snow day yesterday ((without snow actually Chat Icon)) and we baked cookies and I realized my 4 YO is such a big helper and growing up way too fast! She’s sometimes very fresh, but yesterday she seemed like her old fun loving self and it was great!

But most of all, I LOVE bedtime.. I’m a SAHM and you will hear me singing around 7pm that bedtime is almost here very frequently Chat Icon .. while my 2 YO takes a bit to go down, my 9, 7 and 4 YO go down so fast so I’m looking forward to when he does!

Re: NEED some positives--- GOOD things about having kids??

I know! It is very tough during this time of the year. DS is 12. Time flies. I try to remember the sentence "days are long, years are short".

It is wonderful to see their own personality and likes. With DS having conversations, his hugs, his kisses, that he still loves when I scratched his back at night and that helps him to go to sleep. Of course it frustrates, for example, me when he is on a video game for longer that I want and he doesn't listen to me. But when he gets home after school, and I still see his baby face - or maybe it is me imagining it Chat Icon Just the fact to have him in my life is the best blessing Chat Icon
