Does anyone have dental insurance that is not through your job?

I planned to change to per diem at work and just found out that I will no longer qualify for dental and vision insurance. I'm trying to figure out my options for dental insurance outside my job. Any advice? If you have dental and vision outside of work, what is the cost? What % discount do you receive on procedures? (Cleaning, cavities, etc)?

Yes - I do the dental discount plan through Aetna. It's called Aetna Dental Access and I signed up through Dentalplans.com. I paid $160 for the whole year. So far, it's worked out very well for me and has saved me some pretty good money.

ETA: That's a family plan, BTW.

A family plan for 160? That doesn't sound too bad. Do you know what it covers?

I'm interested too - does that just get you in-network rates? My job is being eliminated and my DH has horrible dental so I am interested as well.

I was pricing a little and I found plans for $120 and $190 a month through Guardian.

You can’t purchase dental insurance privately. But you can do a discount dental plan. The one I use is EDP.
You get % off dental work. I’ve saved thousands of dollars on root canal as and crown work using it. There are a lot of dentists who take it

I go to Raphaelson dental associates in deer park. They have an endodontist on staff as well as an oral surgeon who accept EDP as well
Most private endos and oral surgeons will only give small discount for service. Where as at this practice, because they are part of a larger group, you get a much better discount for your services

Please ignore typos. My hands are freezing and my iPhone has a mind of its own

I use healthplex and PP is correct, it is a discount plan. I like it, and I've saved a lot. If I remember correctly, it was like $140 for a yearly family plan.

It's not like a percentage, it's an agreed amount between provider and plan, similar to insurance. So for my 6 month dental visit, I had cleaning, X-rays and exam, and it cost me $150, I believe, total. I had a wisdom tooth out last year and I paid $600 (I think) after all was said and done. I didn't think that was too bad considering I know people pay way more than that with insurance.

You should be able to see on the website what they cover and how much it should cost.
