If you have had the Flu this winter come in!

So DS was diagnosed with Flu Strain B - he was basically diagnosed on day 3 of when his symptoms started. So if I count forward from day one of his symptoms I would say by Day 5 his fever was gone and his appetite came back a bit...he was not back to himself fully but feeling much better. Day 8 he went back to school. Did well at school but was tired that evening. Had decided to not send him the following day but he stayed home due to a snow day anyway. Day 9 ( snow day) he was in great spirits - playing with his sister and seemed back to himself.

Today is Day 10 and he woke with a fever and cough. Had an Xray to rule out pneumonia and it was negative thankfully. Very lethargic today and not eating much. Doc said to keep an eye on him and to bring him back on Friday if he gets worse. I plan on leaving him home from school until Monday which will be Day 15.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing anything similar - fever goes away for 5 or more days then returns.

Anything else that I should be watching out for?

I plan on keeping him hydrated, comfortable and rested.

I had a very similar course like you are describing. For me, a low grade fever returned and i had cold symptoms, nothing too bad in the respiratory sense but i have heard of others having severe respiratory issues. Just keep an eye on him.

Sounds like he may have picked up something else. Same thing happened to a friend's DD. When she went in the second time flu swab was negative. It was just a cold. Probably when he went back to school and his immune system was down from the flu he caught a cold.

I know an adult that this happened to. Was out of work for over a week, was mostly better then a few days later got a fever again for two days. No pneumonia.

I have not had the flu this year, but when I did have it, it was similar. I felt better at home, came back to work, and then relapsed and had to leave early or call in again the next day. I hope it's still "just" the flu and that he's feeling better soon! Chat Icon

Thank you all...I think he must have relapsed or picked up a cold...keeping him home until Monday. His body definitely needs to build up its resistance again - what a brutal flu season.
