Non traditional weddings/locations
Any suggestions for a non traditional wedding location? My sister has been engaged for a few years and they want to have a very low key wedding, more of like a picnic/BBQ, but they have almost 200 people they would invite. Any locations that you can suggest?

Navy Beach in Montauk. Went to a wedding there that was really nice. Wedding on the beach, and the food (which was great!) was fried chicken, sliced steak and I forget what else, but all served family style.

Queens Farm Museum
Also check out breweries...could definitely do a low key wedding at one.

When you say low-key do you also mean inexpensive or Not? Many of the low key locations are expensive because you may need to pay a site fee, plus bring in catering. Low key and cheap, I would check out local parks. Many have pavilions that can accommodate large groups. Low key and expensive, check out the wineries on the North Fork, Bethpage Restoration Village, and the Queens Farm Museum.

Thanks everyone! Low key and cheap would be ideal! Just meant not a traditional catering hall type of place.

Re: Non traditional weddings/locations
I have been to a few low key, but most were smaller.
I wen to a larger wedding at the Queens County Farm museum, and that seems like it can really be low key or not.
They had the ceremony under the gazebo and told people to dress casually. Dinner was inside, but the buffet & dance floor was outside. It was semi wedding, (they did a first dance & parent dances), but it was fun & not stuffy.
Another friend got married at city hall and then a few months later, rented out a lounge/event space (on a Sunday afternoon) and had a cocktail party. It wasn't 200 people, but with a bigger space you could the same.
