Pink Ribbons on Facebook?

I have been seeing a lot of people making their profile picture a pink ribbon in memory of a little girl who died this week in the Smithtown or St James area.

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it and what happened to the little girl?

I can't seem to find any other info about it, other than the pink ribbons in her memory.
So sad. I believe she was 7 years old.

Stuff like that always hits home to me since I have a dd around the same age.
Terrible.

That is what I gathered from the comment I read, BUT, I'm not sure entirely. Just so sad. I remember a girl died at another local school last year I want to say. She had an aneurysm. I just can't imagine sending my child off to school and they don't make it back Chat Icon I always try to think of that when I'm getting huffy puffy mad because my DD is a snail in the morning

Yep. I had a bad fight with my DD last night. I was very angry at her and she was hysterically crying over it.
We made up last night but this morning before she went to school I was thinking of exactly that. And I felt awful
Especially ever since Sandy Hook even more so.

Pink Ribbons on Facebook?

Yes, she appparently went to the nurse with a headache. Started vomiting and having seizures. Rushed to the hospital where she sadly passed away. Only 6 years old Chat Icon

Re: Pink Ribbons on Facebook?

I honestly never knew aneurysms could strike that young.
I mean i have heard of young people with anneryusms- but always late teens, early 20s.

At 6 years old? That is just so scary and so terribly heartbreaking.

I want to throw up

This is pretty much what I heard too. Also that whatever it was that happened, there was no way to prevent it.

God. I can't stop thinking about this.
How scared she must have been and she wasn't even with her parents.
And then the parents...to get that call when you thought you had a perfectly healthy child.
How the eff does something like this happen to a child that young? Like I know that it can happen to anyone but you never ever think of it happening to a child.
Such a senseless tragedy.

I can't even imagine the hell those parents are living.

No medical condition on earth scares me more than an aneurysm. There's nothing you can do to stop it and nothing you can do to prevent it.

Re: Pink Ribbons on Facebook?

She died from an aneurysm caused by a rare brain disorder that had gone undetected. It was, of course, an enormous tragedy and the entire community has embraced her family. I am very proud to live there and to be a part of such a loving and caring town.

It is such a devastating thing that happened. There are pink bows placed all over the school, down Lake Avenue (where the school is) and around St. James. Just looking at the bows all over the town brings me to tears. I truly cannot imagine how the family feels.

Re: Pink Ribbons on Facebook?

I can't stop thinking about this girl and her family.
I can't get the Newsday article and her mother's words out of my head.
DH started to read the article linked above in today's paper and couldn't finish it.
Its just unimaginable as a parent.
You have no idea your child has anything wrong with them, you have no reason to think they are anything other than a healthy, normal 6 year old. Then bam, everything in your world is torn apart in the course of a day.
How is life fair?
I can't fathom the kind of strength it takes to go on after something so shocking and tragic.

Pink Ribbons on Facebook?

One of my coworkers wives worked at her school and was one of her teachers. He said that she has been crying every day since Paige passed. She went to the wake and said it was the saddest thing she has ever done. That poor little princess. I cant even imagine. I work in St. James and every day I see those pink bows and it breaks my heart. I give my DS extra kisses every night now. I couldnt imagine living their nightmare right now. Chat Icon
