Do you search for contractor or cabinets first? How did you find contractor?

We have a friend who is a contractor who does beautiful work and my brother in law can help me Get cabinets for less $

If I didn’t have these contacts, I would start by asking friends or my neighbors who they’ve been using and then go from there. When we first moved here, our neighbors gave us names of people for various jobs but we already had our friend.

If you want, I can give you my friends info. If you find a contractor you like, they can give you places to go for cabinets, countertops, flooring, etc.

I would definitely go to Home Depot or Lowes or Consumers (they have so many displays) and see what you like and have some ideas before you meet with a contractor. We spent a lot of time looking and getting different opinions (we also changed our kitchen layout).
Basically there are a few styles and colors of cabinets so layout and extras are where you need to do your homework.

We met with a cabinet maker first and he recommended a contractor that he works with a lot. We ended up using his contractor and they worked well together, working out the timing of when everything would be done.

Thanks for all of this info. We pretty much will keep the same layout other than moving refrigerator over a bit. I thought of putting island but it wouldn't work since my kitchen is kind of a walkthrough to the back rooms in my house. Other than Home depot and Consumers, any recommendations for places for cabinets? I am thinking white shaker cabinets. I just remember with my bathrooms I knew nothing until I started shopping every weekend.

Like others have said, try to visit showrooms to see what you like (each HD and Lowes have different kitchens set up). I would NOT say to purchase your cabinets from HD or Lowes. We wasted lots of time working with a super nice lady at HD but in the end the price was outrageous! We spent 1/2 that at a cabinet place, though I wouldn't recommend ours because the woman was hard to get in touch with and not overly as helpful as we would have liked. Good luck!
