Romaine lettuce and ecoli
Am I the only one who just heard about this? Apparently there is an outbreak of ecoli, they think romaine is the source but can't be totally certain or track it to any specific place. I never buy romaine except of course I did this week and last week. Just read not to eat or buy any until they figure out the source.

Romaine lettuce and ecoli
Same here. I haven't bought it in years (though i do eat it at restaurants). I bought some last week and have been eating it until i saw this story today. Ugh - i hate stuff like this. I force myself to buy veggies when i don't even like them, and then they end up spreading disease.

This is why I don't eat veges! Too unhealthy!
Popping a vitamin to get your nutrients is much safer.

I just heard today too! We buy it almost weekly. Dh just got more yesterday. I'm preggo so I told him I'm not eating anymore.

The only comforting thing the news said today was that the last case was reported second week of Dec so the romaine that’s out now was hopefully not effected. Just scary that they can’t fugure out where it came from and they do have NY cases.

i'm pretty sure I was one who was affected. My whole office went for a luncheon in Hampton Bays and 41 out of 44 of us got violently sick. They did have Caesar salad that I did eat. Health dept was involved. I had to do a phone interview and give a poop sample. The luncheon was dec 8th.

We have a package of Romain lettuce from stop and shop that was bought last week?
Haven’t eaten it yet.

Any particular brands of romaine ?
I really don't like it, but buy the romaine hearts for DH and wash it well before I cut it up.
I never buy prepackaged lettuces.

i just heard about this last night and we eat romaine hearts al the time. We use them as lettuce boats and now I don't want to eat it anymore!

No they haven't narrowed it down to a brand or supplier. The CDC hasn't even issued a recall or anything bc they're not 100% sure. It seems that Consumer Reports is the one who recommended avoiding all romaine until the source of the outbreak is figured out. It's easy enough to avoid so I'm tossing mine.

This skeeves me out so bad.
Why are there always issues with lettuce and bagged salad?
How is e coli getting on these veges?
Are they being sprayed with feces?

I read something years ago about lettuce being the biggest culprit of Ecoli. Something about it growing with it IN it from contaminated soil. I love salad, but this makes me think twice about eating it, regardless of what kind of lettuce it is made from. I recently read a story recently about a local girl who died from Ecoli she got from food a few years back....scary stuff

i'm in ct. and several people including kids have been infected with ecoli. One little girl was hospitalized for 3 weeks with it. So scary. of course we bought a huge bag of like 5 heads for a party and served it. Thank goodness noone got sick but leftovers went in the garbage.
