Favorite "small" Mountain near L.I
So we are not skiers but DH wants to go snowboarding at some stage this winter. I am reluctantly looking into it. I would like to get the kids into skiing / snow boarding. Both kids love the snow and love to ice skate.
So is there any low key family resort within driving distance of Long island - up to 3/4 hours where we could go for a fun long weekend.
If there were other things to do "off" mountain that would be a bonus.
Thank you!!

We did skiing at Mount Peter last year for a day trip. I wasn't a big fan of the "free" lesson that was included. Mark that down as 1 to skip for what you're describing. Camelback is nice, not small though, but lower key than hunter or wyndham. I went there a bunch of times with a friend for skiing, I could see that being nice as a family trip with tubing, skiing and the water park.

Camelback is fun, but not low key at all. Maybe try Bear Creek Mountain? I've never been, but it looks small, the hotel at the mountain looks nice, and they have snowtubing.

Camelback is good because you can do aqua topic and snow tubing there too. We did Jack Frost a couple of years ago when DS was 3. It was a good mountain for him to start. We stayed at Split Rock which had an indoor water park also. It's good for smaller kids. Shawnee has a resort. Mount Snow is a little further and is nice too. Hunter, Wyndham, belayer get way too crowded.
