USPS says package was delivered- except it wasn't

Does anyone have experience with this:

I ordered something from the GAP. It was due to arrive by today. I checked the tracking and it says that it was delivered by USPS yesterday around 5:30 pm and that it was left in my mailbox.

I was home yesterday around 5:30. Today, I checked my mailbox and the surrounding area. Nothing.

I'm thinking:

1. USPS left it in my mailbox or near my mailbox and someone stole it.

2. USPS left it in someone else's mailbox.

3. USPS never actually delivered it but maybe coded it as delivered so that it would appear that it was delivered by Christmas.

I'll wait until close of business on 12/26 to contact the GAP. Anyone ever receive something after USPS coded it as delivered?

This happens to be a lot....goes to someone else, then they bring it over!

Yes. I had something marked delivered but it never came. A few days later it appeared on my doorstep with another package.

Can you check with neighbors to see if they got it?

Mine usually goes to the local post office and then they deliver it and then they deliver it

I had a package "delivered' by Fedex last year. They mis-delivered and re-delivered the next day.

If you don't get it in another day or two - call GAP and tell them, they will issue a credit most likely.
