Mammo Results
I'm 36 and just had my first baseline mammo yesterday. I get a call from the imaging center and they said they found calcification and a nodule behind my right nipple. I need to go back for another mammo on my right breast and an ultrasound.
I'm totally freaking out, Any similar experiences? Prayers are appreciated. TIA.
ETA I had my second mammo and ultrasound done today. I need to go back in January to have a biopsy to look into the calcification further.

Mammo Results
I think this is pretty common. I almost always have to go back for an ultrasound. I have also had to have biopsies twice. I think they are probably just being overly cautious (which is a good thing, just in case), but I would think the chances of it being anything are pretty small

Re: Mammo Results
that happened to me after my first mammo - although they did not tell me exactly what they found, i was just told i had to go back in for another mammo and ultrasound. turned out to be nothing, but my new protocol is to get a mammo and sono done every year (not just a mammo). Even though I did both this summer, I got another call this year (this was my second one) that I had to go back for more follow up. I then had 3 additional mammograms, and an ultrasound done by 2 technicians and the doctor and it all turned out fine. It is extremely nerve racking and stressful, but it does not necessarily mean there is a problem. Doctors prefer to be cautious sending prayers and good vibes your way

Re: Mammo Results
Don't freak out It's common and better to have a second closer look.
I go every 6 months for my sono, and yearly for mammo.

Re: Mammo Results
yea, i think its common. it seems to be happening to almost everyone i talk to so im convinced its something in the water or our food i now do an annual mamo and sono every 6 months also. Ive been having these since 17 years old. I had initially removed some but then they keep coming back so I stop doing mamo for about 10 years and I would go and stop again. now creeping on 50 I go when I should. Although I will probably stop going again
Get a second opinion and try not to worry too much

Re: Mammo Results
I am 41 and had my baseline mammo a few months ago at Sloan Kettering and was called back to have it repeated and for an ultrasound. I was told the Dr wanted a closer look. Everything turned out fine - as it stands, based on my age and the fact that it was my 1st mammo, and I had dense breasts - they needed to repeat it to get better images. Not to worry!

Re: Mammo Results
Hang in there I know its super scary but the percentages are on your side. I just had mine in November and kept having to go back and forth for more ultrasounds and then an MRI. Last Thursday, I had two MRI guided biopsies done and they called me Friday evening with the results, they were negative. Similar situation last year but that just was a cyst that they aspirated.

Re: Mammo Results
I automatically get mammo and sono on the same day. It reduces the chances of going back and forth. I had calcification too. I needed a biopsy all is good! And all will be good for you too. Try not to get your self all worried. Youll be fine

Re: Mammo Results
I have dense breasts so I hear you. I always do mammo & sono on the same day. This year, I opted for the 3D mammo and all was good. Think about doing the 3D version for added peace of mind.

Re: Mammo Results
It's very normal actually especially if you have dense breasts. Try not to worry!
One thing that helps is finding a dr who reads the mammo while you;re still there. This way, if you need more images or a sono, you can get it done right away. I get an annual mammo + ultrasound. Then I wait and the dr reads my results. If you need more pics, they call you back and do it right then. Otherwise, the dr gives me the results right away and sends me on my way. I'm still typically in and out in about an hour or a little more. It's worth it IMO.

3D made no difference for me. 10 yrs ago, I had a mammo and had to follow up with u/s and an MRI. This year, for my first "annual," I opted for the 3D and still had to go back for u/s. I'll repeat the u/s in 6 months and mammo next yr.
