Re: Take a moment, remember Sandy Hook on the 5 year anniversary today

I can't watch this because I am at work and I can't ugly cry today since customers are coming in soon.

But the other night I watched a video about one of the moms who lost her son and she spoke about how she has forgiven the shooter and how it has freed her.

I can't tell you how much I cried watching it and was just in awe at that woman's strength and composure as she spoke.

I am not sure I could have even gone on living, they would be still scrapping me off the floor 5 years later, not even sure how I could function after that, and here she was speaking so eloquently and beautifully about forgiveness.

I can't believe it's been 5 years.

This is such an emotional day for me. Even more so than any other infamous or tragic day. I just can't fathom it. It's so unbelievably painful to think about, yet how can you forget that 20 innocent babies and their teachers were murdered at an elementary school two weeks before Christmas.

Ugh. Hug your kids tightly. I was a mess watching that video earlier.

This is the video I saw this morning. I feel exactly the same as you. I don't think I could go on after something like this.

Take a moment, remember Sandy Hook on the 5 year anniversary today

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was newly pregnant. Nobody knew. I thought I can't believe this is the world I'm bringing a child into.

We announced my pregnancy to our families the next morning at our annual Hanukkah brunch.

Having two children now, I can't even imagine going on.

I will watch it later because I’m at work and just seeing the words Sandy Hook, my eyes start to tear.
I tell DH sometimes (it’s morbid, but it comes up) that if anything were to happen to DD, he would have to plan two funerals because I’m just not strong enough to deal with that.
I give these parents so much credit!

Vice news last night had a really powerful interview with one of the mothers. Just unbelievable that's it's been 5 years and things have only gotten worse. The last school shooting, maybe a week ago, barely made the news. Nothing more than buried articles online about two innocent lives taken. It's sickening.

I can't watch the video. My heart aches for these families. I remember being heartbroken when it happened, now having a child of my own, I couldn't even begin to imagine the pain they feel.

Re: Take a moment, remember Sandy Hook on the 5 year anniversary today

My heart re-breaks every time I think about this day. I remember an interview years ago with one of the mothers and she was saying that they were running late and for whatever reason she didn't get to say her normal "have a good day, I love you" to her child. Ever since this happened 5 years ago, I've made it a point to make sure I tell my kids I love them and give them a big hug and kiss goodbye in the mornings no matter how late we are, no matter how they've been acting, no matter what's going on. I will not leave them for the day without saying those words to them just in case, God forbid, something were to ever happen.

I do the same exact thing and think about this every single morning when I drop them off.

I think about these babies every single day.

I donate towards the Jessie Lewis Choose Love Movement and Sandy Hook Promise(Sorry I can't hyperlink). I wish I could do more as an individual to honor the memory of these children and prevent these massacresChat Icon

Re: Take a moment, remember Sandy Hook on the 5 year anniversary today

Not to be overly dramatic but I think about these kids and those families ALL the time. My DD was in 1st grade at the time...I was in her classroom doing a craft when this happened..I was traumatized that entire christmas. I think about them every time my D passes a milestone - she started middle school in september and those kids should have all started.

The part that disgusts me and appalls me the most is that we have gotten worse and nothing has changed.

Nothing can ease the pain of these families but if we as a country could have done something to tighten gun control I think it would have at least made them feel that maybe this would not happen to another child / family. But all they can feel now is that they are like hamsters on a wheel...the wheel of horror :(

So very sad. A close friend of my daughter-in-law was one of the teachers killed that day. I will never forget those innocent children and teachers that were murdered that day

Its more important for the NRA assholes to have their assault rifles. You know for sport. Because they ENJOY shooting them. That is what is more important than our children's safety.

Re: Take a moment, remember Sandy Hook on the 5 year anniversary today

DS was 7 years old at the moment. It was also our wedding anniversary. DS was sick and I had to pick him up at school, because he was throwing up. I never felt happier to have him at home, knowing what had happened, and knowing my son was with me, when so horrible things happened in another school. While he was sleeping and trying to recover whatever virus he had on, I was crying in the bathroom for those kids and parents that wouldn't have the opportunity to take care of their babies. I still don't understand and get it on my heart Chat Icon

Re: Take a moment, remember Sandy Hook on the 5 year anniversary today

I finally got a chance to watch the video in the OP.
It gutted me. I haven't sobbed like that in a long time.
What struck me is how much the parents featured had aged in the past 5 years from the pictures and videos of them before the murders.
You could actually SEE the pain and torture in their faces. Like you can physically see it.
And the cops and first responders...you don't really think about that part of it. Can you imagine what they saw? What this had to have done to them mentally?
It's just so unimaginable.
I can't even wrap my brain around it.

Re: Take a moment, remember Sandy Hook on the 5 year anniversary today

Its so incredibly painful still. I honestly think I should have gone to therapy after that happened because I cried for months. I think about those kids every day when I say goodbye to my girls, I always say one more I love after I think I've said my final one. I think about my girls 2nd grade and Kindergarten and neither of them barely know what a gun is. I can't even let my mind go there its too much and I can't handle

What drives me crazy is those parents begged congress to change gun laws and nothing was done. Since that day hundreds more have died in mass shootings and the NRA and Republicans continue to act like guns don't kill people Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It’s disgusting. There is no reason people need to be able to purchase guns like this.

Still can’t watch. 5 years ago my daughter and my nephew were in kindergarten. One toss of the dice and it’s one of their schools. Still can’t wrap my head around that. Those sweet angels. Rest In Peace.
