has anyone been told they need to change the hard drive
having trouble with my computer, took it to Micro center, they tell me I should change my hard drive, cost $215 + diagnostic fee of $43.00.
They test they run is the same I can run by hitting F12 when th computer turns on.
If you changed the drive, why? what were the issues that lead you to the drive? and cost

Re: has anyone been told they need to change the hard drive
How old is your hard drive? Very few drives need to be changed. Drives usually fail in the first few weeks, or after 10+ years (usually more).
Also, drives rarely indicate that they are failing and need to be replaced. Some do, but most just fail catastrophically in a moment.
HDs aren't like timing belts in a car. They don't need to be changed every 100,000 downloads or anything.
Did they give you any reasons why they want to replace it?
Since ALL hard drives will fail at some point (but for most people, it's way after the time they upgrade the entire computer), it's always a good idea to have backups of your data. Either on a 2nd hard drive, or using a Cloud service, like Google Drive or something.

my computer is 3 yrs old, reason it failed the F12 test.
To add, they said my battiery failed to, but it still charges, holds less of a charge but still works

Re: has anyone been told they need to change the hard drive
A 3 year old battery won't be as good as a brand new one, but it shouldn't "fail", it should be at a fairly high percentage of new (80% or so, give or take). I wouldn't consider that as failing.
Nothing they seem to be recommending is necessarily wrong, but extremely premature. It's like changing your tires every year. Sure, brand new tires are better than one year old tires, but they definitely don't need to be replaced, since there's nothing "wrong" with them.
Personally, if it was my computer, I would just make sure I had backups of all of my data on an ongoing schedule, and keep an eye out for any good sales on computers in the next year or so. I definitely wouldn't rush to replace any hardware, either parts or a whole new computer.
Are any of these "problems" negatively affecting what you're using the computer for? Do you need a 100% capacity battery? Are the F12 errors causing problems with Windows or apps? Are the problems just warnings, or failure type errors?

has anyone been told they need to change the hard drive
I spent a lot of $$$ on this computer and dont plan on buying a new one anytime soon. The main problem is it keeps freezing and it struggles to "get online" once on, it states, Firefox not responding etc and freezes the entire screen and I am forced to force a shut down.
I dont have an issue getting on and using word etc, just online. The computer store said they un installed and re-installed firefox, it was good for one day and now the same issue.

Re: has anyone been told they need to change the hard drive
If everything but FF works, I would try another browser. It's a free check to see if it's something with FF, or something deeper.
Either use Internet Explorer, or install Google Chrome and see if that avoids the problem.
Word is pretty resource intensive, so if that works, there's a good chance your computer is relatively OK.

Definitely try another browser and see if that helps

I'd remove Fire Fox and install Google Chrome and try that.

Could it be related to your internet connection in your home?

this fuckin SUCKs Nell. I'm out of work and have no extra income :( to fix IF it needs to be
My cousin emailed me back, he is a computer person and teaches it, BUT, does not live near me.
he sent me a list of instructions to try on my own to see if I can correct the prob. He told me to stay off the internet until I complete all 4 steps.
Wish me luck, computer issues stress me :(

Is there a reason you won't use Chrome? It's almost all I use on all my computers, and what most of the Engineers at my job install since IE is so horrible...
I stopped using FF years ago. It used to be my favorite, but they haven't been keeping up with things like Chrome does.
I always have multiple browsers installed, even if I don't use them often. If I ever come across a website/Internet issue, the first thing I try is a different browser.

Well using IE is not going to help...that's as outdated and slow as it comes. Why won't you use Chrome?

All browsers track your activity, not just Chrome.

All browsers track your activity, not just Chrome.
FF *claims* that they have a feature to prevent tracking, but all browsers have that feature, and basically no website follows that request, including Microsoft.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Not_Track
So, all browsers and web sites track you equally at this point.

That's why my company LOVES IE. We are so behind the times. By the time they test everything, equipment and programs become obsolete.
I use Chrome to run certain company programs, if I use IE or FF, I can sit here watching the circles spin, or stuff doesn't run properly. I've been warned not to use Chrome because it is not company approved. Yeah, ok. Go figure. I go incognito for non work stuff.
