Potty training a boy
I did the 3 day method with dd at 27 months and by day 3 we were out of the house and she had zero accidents since.
Now my ds is 2 1/2 and this is my second try with him. He's refusing to sit at all! I really don't want to give up but it's lot of pee to keep cleaning up ugh! My first try with him I was sick from morning sickness so I wasn't that attentive and I kinda gave up after 5 days. I have special treats and I bought him underwear he wanted bc I noticed that unlike dd when he peed he didn't care bc it never touched his legs. The underwear makes him feel it now. Nothing is working though. What did you do for a stubborn boy??! lol

Potty training a boy
I'm probably no help, but I'm a big believer in they'll do it on their own time when they're ready. I didn't specifically train either if my kids, and by 3 yrs old they both decided to do it on their own. Of course I encouraged potty use but I never forced them. It created too much stress for everyone in my house, and a power struggle could just make it more difficult.

I am the opposite. If I did not really push my DS he would never be trained. I did the 3 days and the first day was hell and I had to force him into it. By day 3 we were basically trained.

Same.
I waited until they were over 3 though. DS 1 was 3 years 4 mos and DS 2 was 3 years 9 mos (more stubborn).

Re: Potty training a boy
i had the same thing...dd was trained in 3 days - piece of cake! DS was not. I tried early (before he was 2) so i stopped and gave him more time. Tried again and he got peeing down with no problem. He peed on the potty for almost 1 year before pooping on the potty. He just needed to be ready to do it. So again, I know its not what you want to hear, but when he is ready, he will do it. But I will say, we could not get DS to sit and pee. We taught him standing. We tried cheerios in the toilet for him to aim at which didnt work too well. I ended up getting a bulls eye sticker from amazon that you stick in the bowl and it worked. DS aimed (or tried to). YES it is messy, but DS stands like a big boy like daddy when peeing and he is happy.
edit to add the sticker we used (which stayed on our toilet for about 6 months until we renovated our bathroom and got a new toilet) sticker

Potty training a boy
No amount of sticker charts, bribes, screaming, or leaving in underwear worked.
He was 4, and decided for himself he was going to poop on the potty. It was a complete control thing.

Same. DD was pee trained super fast. Daycare trained her. She never even had a night accident. Not once. Poop- forget it. Nothing worked. Nothing. Then one day at like 4 years old she decided to poop on the potty and that was that. Because she was ready. Same with taking away the bottle. And the binky. If you wait until they are ready it's a lot less stress and work for everyone. And I like less stress and work.

2.5 is very young. Sounds like he isn't ready.

I agree. My ds will be 2.5 at the end of this month and I'm waiting . He's so not ready. We potty trained my older son when he was 2y11m and he picked it up quickly so I will be doing the same this time.

Re: Potty training a boy
Thanks everyone. I'll wait a little longer. I was hoping to have him out of diapers by the time I deliver my next ds in February. Hopefully it won't be long with two in diapers.

Potty training a boy
We didn't even bother trying the 3 day thing until DS was 3 yrs, 2 months old. He wasn't ready until then, so we didn't push it.
He still might not be ready.

Re: Potty training a boy
I think 2.5 is on the younger side especially for a boy. My older one trained at 2y9m, but it was through daycare and once it clicked for him to actually pee on the potty, it happened pretty quickly. With DS2, we did a modified version of the 3 day method. He was pretty stubborn. We bought lots of treats, but he wasn't motivated to do anything but sit on the potty until we had him continue to sit on the potty after a nap until he went. When he finally saw that he was capable of going, he started to try to use it more. It took several weeks before he was mostly accident free. I probably wouldn't have pushed it except he couldn't move up to the preschool room until he was trained.
