Proctitis caused by ulcer

Just wondering if anyone has this. I had a colonoscopy this morning because I was having difficulty with bowel movements for the last week. The doctor says that I have proctitis. He took a biopsy of the tissue so I won't know until next week, but he thinks it's an ulcer. He gave me meds. Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this. I just turned 39 on Wednesday, happy birthday to me lol

You know what works great for an ulcer, Manuka Honey. Get 250MGO and mix it with tea or put on toast. Also Mastic Gum. Research it, I swear by both.

I will research that. But I should've clarified...it's an ulcer of the colon, not in the stomach. It's basically my own immune system attacking the lining of the colon causing inflammation.

I had this, ended up being diagnosed with Crohn’s

I've been doing more research & saw that it's probably either Crohn's or ulcerative proctitis. Do you take meds everyday for life with Crohns? Or do you control it with just diet? Have you had multiple flare ups or does it stay in remission for a long time? Sorry for all the questions, I just didn't expect this & know nothing about it.

It's different for everyone. I joined a few FB groups and had to unjoin because honestly, they made me panic. LOL. For me, it's fairly mild (knock on wood). I had a 3 week flare that led to my diagnosis. I went to the ER three times in that period but was never admitted. Had a colonoscopy which led to my diagnosis. From there, I took steroids for three -five months and had to stick to the BRAT diet during that time as well to bring me out of it. It really sucked but at that point, I had been so frustrated with what was wrong with me that it felt good to finally at least know.

My biggest trigger is stress. I'm having a flare now due to stress caused by the hospitalization and eventual loss of my grandfather but it's my biggest one since my diagnosis three years ago. In general, I feel "flare-y" around my period time but most women get weird gastrointestinal issues at that time so my doctor wasn't too concerned. I avoid all seeds all the time and avoid hot sauce/raw veggies if I'm feeling crappy. In general, I've been lucky. I do take medicine and will need to for the rest of my life but compared to other cases I've seen, I feel #blessed. LOL. I take Pentasa - it's the most mild "maintenance" med and I'm hoping to be on it as long as possible. As per my doctor, once I move to one of the stronger ones (humira, etc. etc.), my options become more limited so I'm hoping to be able to maintain it on Pentasa for a long time. I also briefly looked into medicinal marijuana but haven't gotten to the point of really trying it out because I've been pretty flare free. A lot of the people on the groups in other states saw great progress with it. My last point I wanted to make is that your "triggers" sometimes change which suck. I might eat icecream and be completely fine and then have it again in a few weeks and be in ridiculous pain. Since the environment in my intestines is changing pretty often, sometimes different things can make me react. In general though, when I'm sleeping well, taking care of myself to stay stress free (bubble baths, meditation, etc.) and working out, I feel the very best. Good luck!

Thank you so much for all the info, I really appreciate it. I'm sorry about your grandfather Chat Icon

I just have to wait now for the results of the biopsy, but good to start researching what I might have to deal with. And very interesting about the medical marijuana! Thanks again!
