Chief economic adviser says Americans can ‘Buy A New Car’ with $1,000 tax cut

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/gary-cohn-trump-tax-plan-new-car_us_59cd50e3e4b0ef0694274690

President Donald Trump’s chief economic adviser — Gary Cohn, the former Goldman Sachs president worth an estimated $266 million — appears to be completely clueless about what the average American family spends on a car, vacation or home improvement project.

Hours after falsely claiming that “the wealthy are not getting a tax cut” under Trump’s tax reform plan, Cohn appeared at a White House press briefing and spoke to what middle-class Americans have to look forward to. Based on the administration’s assumptions, he said, a typical family that has two children and earns $100,000 per year can expect annual tax savings of approximately $1,000.

“If we allow a family to keep another thousand dollars of their income, what does that mean?” he asked. “They can renovate their kitchen. They can buy a new car. They can take a family vacation. They can increase their lifestyle.”

The rather tone-deaf comment came in response to a question about how Trump — who could see savings of more than $125 million per year under his own plan — can claim the proposal doesn’t benefit him personally.

...

This is coming from the supposed National "expert" in finances... The Swamp is so out of touch with reality, and they are messing with our lives and don't even care. They think that we should be grateful that they are letting us eat some of the crumbs from their banquet, and worship them for those crumbs.

Plus, without the Estate tax, his kids could get an extra couple of billion (assuming he's worth what he claims). No conflict of interest here... Chat Icon

The only car you can get for a grand would be the one Adam Sandler sings about in his song "Piece of Shit Car"

here we go
no no no (whoo ooh)
piece of shit car,
i gotta piece of shit car
that ******* pile of shit
never gets me very far.
my cars a big piece of shit
cause the shocks are ******* shot,
and my seatbelts fuckin broken,
i got to tie em in a knot. (its a piece of shit)
i cant see through the windshield
cause its got a big ******* crack,
and the interior smells real bad
cause my friend puked in the back. (its a piece of shit)
(piece of shit car) piece of shit car
(hes gotta piece of shit car)
it sucks royal **** (that fuckin pile of shit, never gets him very far)
oh **** you car.
its got no CD player,
its only got the 8-track.
whoever designed my car
can lick my sweaty nut sack. (they can bite his ass too)
and i got no ******* brakes,
im always way out of control,
11 times a day i hear "hey watch it asshole" (you ******* piece of shit).
(piece of shit car)

diesel gas sucks my ass! (that ******* pile of shit)
that pile of metal shit (never gets him very far.)
oh what the **** did i do,
what the **** did i do,
what the **** did i do,
to get stuck with you?
you're too wide for drive-thru
and you smell like the shoe,
but im too broke to buy something new.
ah **** me.
the engine likes to flood,
the car always ******* stalls,
and the seat cushions got a big rip
so a spring always pokes the balls. (ouch ouch ouch)
plus the doorlocks are busted,
i got to use a ******* coat hanger. (what a pain in his ass)
and if a girlie sees my car,
theres no chance i'll ever bang her. (he'll never ever get the *****)

I heard this on the evening news last night.
Almost choked on my dinner.

You can barely buy a new fridge for $1,000 how in the bloody hell are you supposed to renovate an entire kitchen for that amount of money ?

While an extra $1k a year is nice, it's not going to make or break us. It's $83 a month, not enough enough for a leased car payment.

This cabinet just proves it over and over again how out of touch with the American reality they really are.

DH and I did a DIY budget reno of our kitchen 4 years ago. Spent about $8k, did everything but the plumbing and stove hookup ourselves and bought the cabinets at IKEA.

These people are delusional.

I don't know. My first car in my name was $700
My coworker just bought herself a jeep for $1500
I know my friend's son car could have been $2000 but he said it too cheap.

Me, personally, I need a second car soon and we probably won't go less than $8k-$10k for 'cheap'

But when I was younger and trying to make ends meet. $1000 for a car would have been heaven sent.

Frankly anything in my pocket not there the day before would have been grand as I was writing bad checks on a daily basis.

He specifically said "new" car, among other things. The $1000 is only if you're making $100k per year. If you're trying to make ends meet, you're only getting dozens of dollars back a year.
In exchange for that, billionaires would get hundreds of millions back, and all of that would come at the expense of infrastructure, social programs, etc.

Yeah I see you're point

I've never technically owned a new car.

But every car is new to me Chat Icon
