Temporary housing
So we are buying and selling homes at the same time and it looks like there's a possibility that we may not have a place to live for about a month. It's possible we can stay with family but I'd honestly rather not. I've looked into a few extended stay hotels and cannot believe how expensive it is! At or above 6k for a month! Anyway, just curious if anyone has suggestions for other possibilities to look into. I'm in the Massapequa area and have school ages children so can't be too far. TIA!

Re: Temporary housing
You could look into short term corporate housing at an apartment complex like Avalon. I'm sure that's expensive though maybe not as much as $6k/month (!). The other idea I had was checking out AirBnb. I hope you find something soon! How stressful!

My parents stayed at an extended stay in Melville. They went and spoke to them in person for a rate. They didn't pay the online published rate.

we are just starting the process to maybe be selling and buying in a few months and this situation is honestly the one thing that holds me back! Its so hard! Maybe you can find an apartment that is local that if the people cant find anyone - at least it is one months rent while they are looking for another tenant?

SIL was just in this situation. They found a short term rental condo and were able to take it month to month. It was in Huntington but i would look into something like that.

Re: Temporary housing
We stayed at the avalon in Glen Cove 7 years ago when we were doing construction. I think it was $2600 a month for a one bedroom plus den. Unfurnished. It would have been cheaper if we had booked it farther in advance. I'm sure it's more expensive now.

is it possible to stay in the house you are selling for a bit longer? when i purchased my house, the seller paid us rent to live there because their new construction home wasn't ready on time.

Re: Temporary housing
Thanks everyone, will look into suggestions. We are really going to try to work with both our buyers and sellers to see if we can coordinate but need to have a back up plan. It's super stressful. It is also possible that we could do a week or 2 paying rent in our (soon to be) old home! Thats just crazy lol but a possibility.

A coworker was lifting her house and needed temp housing in massapequa and they stayed in the apartments across from Berner. I forgot the name, but check it out.
