Drop off play date

At what age do drop off play dates and birthday parties start where parents just drop off kids? My one girlfriend said kindergarten at the latest first grade. My nephew is going into 4th grade and his mom won't do drop offs at all so he never sees his friends outside of school except at random bday parties where she or her dh stay.

My dd is going into ft prek so this year I expect parents to stay at most things for at least this year.

Re: Drop off play date

DD had a few drops offs with good friends the summer before Kindergarten and they increased over the year last year but now because most of the people she has playdates with i am friends with the mom they aren't always drop off. Birthday parties have become drop off.

Re: Drop off play date

in the beginning of kindergarten I stayed at them all
Once we started to establish some REAL friendships and had a few play dates with the same family under our belt - we did drop off
Drop off definitely by 1st grade but again we are friendly with these families and trust them with our child

I would probably say 1st grade but I am overprotective so this may not be the norm

Kindergarten. But I only drop off for playdates where we know the family. And if I drop off for a party, I usually just run an errand if I have to and come back after an hour. I never drop off for the whole party.

Drop off play date

my son is going into first grade. i've done a couple drop-off playdates (both having his friends dropped off here, and dropping him off at a friends...) BUT its only been 2 particular friends, that i know the moms really well ( one i met when our boys weren't even 2 yet, and the other one is a fellow adoptive mom who i know has been background checked out the yang for the adoption, like we were LOL ) i haven't dropped him off for a birthday party yet... BUT my friends daughter is just starting second grade. She had her party over the summer and said they were surprised at how many parents just dropped the kids off...

I am honest with the parents and tell them that I'm old fashioned and plain not comfortable dropping my kid off. I either invite them over or I stay. I usually will invite them first. Most parents have a horror story of picking up their kids and realizing nanny didn't supervise, didn't speak English, parents weren't there, etc... so they get me. We have play dates probably monthly. Interestingly, I've made good friends with the moms that have come/I've gone.

Birthday party drop off is a bit easier as it's being supervised by outside parties & is in a public place with cameras.

Honestly, I feel that you never really know the home situation of people. I have lots of friends who were molested growing up (male and female). IMO, it's not worth the risk.

Drop off play date

My youngest is in kindergarten. We just started drop off play dates with 1 friend in pre-k last year. However, I became really good friends with the mom, she was a good friend of another mom I'm friends with. She is also the only other person that I was comfortable with my kids driving with for a while. He has another friend that I have dropped him off to, but gain I am friends with the mom. My twins are in 1st and they have had a couple of drop off play dates. BUT, I have hung out with the moms before, I became friendly with them and I knew their parenting style before I dropped them off. At this age I will not let them go to someone's house unless I know the mom and I prefer to have gone to the house first and stayed for at least 1 play date. If I don't get a good vibe they will never be dropped off. I have said no to my daughter going to a drop off play date before because I know there would not be ,ice adult supervision. I have not done drop off parties yet and don't plan on it for a while.
