Homeowner's ins. question

We just finished our basement. My insurance agent called and convinced us to cancel our existing coverage and go with another company that would be a lower rate with better coverage. Seemed like a no brainer. Now an insepctor will be coming by. Problem is we do not have a CO for the basement. Will it have to be reported (and thus will my taxes increase)? Can I refuse to let the inspector down there? Thoughts?

Homeowner's ins. question

When we got home owner's insurance after buying a house, no one from the insurance company came inside the house. I think they just looked around the house from outside. Which company is this?

I would just cancel and tell your agent you are keeping what you have.

I'm pretty sure they don't look for a CO. They just want to know what they are insuring. And like a pp said, they might just do a drive by. I think we just had to let our inspector into the backyard, at most.

Homeowner's ins. question

They do not look for a CO and usually don't even go into your house. It is usually an exterior inspection

Can I ask who u use and how much a month it is? We are in the process of buying a house. We are thinking we will stick with Geico as we already use them for renters insurance. Thx!

Re: Homeowner's ins. question

They only came in to take photos of the electrical box downstairs.

$160 per month for 2 cars?? That is a great rate! I don't mean this to sound insulting but are your cars older? DH & I both have excellent credit and no claims etc and we pay more than double that for our cars!

I pay about the same. We have Traveler's. DH has a 2016 and I have a 2011. Switched from Geico and saved nearly $600 for the year.

The amount of coverage makes a big difference in the premium too

HAHA! Not mean at all! I have a 2010 RDX and a 2013 Ram both with full coverage. We have no claims either.
