how do you travel as a family of 5?
we have 3 kids. We are trying T&C but they want 18k for the week we want and the week before is about 15k.
Who can afford to travel like that?
I am working with an travel agent and they are making us either go into a suite or adjoining rooms which both are insane money.
Are people really paying that much?

We just booked beaches t and c. Staying in a one bedroom key west suite with our three kids. There's a bed with trundle and we will get a rollaway mattress In The living room area and dh and I will have the bedroom.
Traveling is much harder with five and more expensive. We usually get suites because the kids aren't young enough to be in a different room. As they get older we will consider connecting and adjoining rooms.
I scratch my head when I hear people spending 18k at beaches. My max budget was 10k. Not sure how they afford that?!? I woundnt spend that on a beach Caribbean vacation, but I would on an African safari type trip.

I can't speak to tropical vacations and all-inclusives, but for all of our vacations, we always book rooms saying we're a family of four and then bringing in an air mattress. Two hotel rooms...yeah, that's not happening!

Right? Ok so I'm not crazy. But my 1 yr old needs a crib. 10k is still insane but seems to be the rate. I can't believe I am even saying 10k. I could redo my bathroom for that lol.

That is insane! We are also a family of 5 but haven't done a vacation like that (did Kalahari last year). We were looking into Disney cruises and it is such an insane increase in price from a family of 4 to a family of 5 because of the suite needed. Ugh! Not happening anytime soon.

We don't. We're not going anywhere. Besides the cost, I'm exhausted just thinking about the preparation & work involved haha! Maybe 1 overnight (thinking of visiting family in DC & maybe doing Lancaster another time) but no real traveling or vacations. I still like to read this board though, it brings back fond memories of our traveling days!

T&C beaches price is nuts... and cruises are out of the picture now! There are tons of beautiful and cheaper places in the carribean. I have lots of success with the Marriott chains with 3 young kids.

Honeatly, most families of 5 I know don't travel other than road trips like PA, Ocean City, Jersey Shore etc. They either rent a home or borrow a parents / relatives vacation home. Or like pp said, sneak 5 into a regular hotel room. Unless you are very well off, I think it's tough and most people don't do trips requiring air travel. It's just crazy expensive. It's one of the main reasons I don't want to go for a 3rd child :/

We are a family of 6 so I understand your pain. I just usually say 4 and then we bring a pack and play. We haven't flown anywhere besides visiting family.
Another option is look into renting a time share place they are more like apartments. We did that in Florida.

Re: how do you travel as a family of 5?
We just did one night at Sesame Place with my DS 5 1/2, DD 4 and almost 3 year old DS. It was so hard!! We were suppose to meet my SIL there but her son got sick. The hardest part was going on rides one adult had to stay with the other two at all times and take turns taking each kid on a ride. I have looked at other places since we want to go away again in August but it is so expensive. We need a suite or a pull out couch because we can't do all 5 in a room. It is so expensive. Im looking at airfare for Florida in August and its costing a ton!! I can't fly alone, I need my DH or someone with me due to the layout of a plane. Where do I put everyone? I need 5 seats!! My 2nd and 3rd were total surprises!!

We are thinking of going to Sesame in spring. I want to go before my kids get too big. My SIL and niece may come too (hopefully). Where did you stay?

SpringHill Suites Philadelphia Langhorne 200 North Buckstown Drive Langhorne, Pennsylvania 19047
It was the closest to the park. We walked there and left our car at the hotel. We checked out early in the morning and they kept our car there for us. It saved us the money of having to pay at the park.

No. You actually shouldn't tell them. In most cases putting 5 in a room isn't allowed. You have to "sneak" a 5th. They won't count or bother you but if you go a resort that requires bracelets you could run into an issue.

You don't need a suite...there are rooms that have the queen, the bunks and a murphy type pull down bed.

Ok. Maybe those were sold out when I looked. I'm sure those rooms go first. I just noticed when I looked at the different between 4 and 5 people it was an insane price increase. We are not ready anytime soon but good to know about the different options.
