How do you start a block party?
I see so many posts lately about a block party. A couple of my neighbors and I were recently talking about doing one, but afraid of one or two houses on the block not allowing.
We live in a cul de sac. I see a lot going on in NY. We're in NJ and not too many I've heard going on. Figured I'd ask.
What do you provide and are all the houses open for everyone to use? Just confused.
Thanks!

I am planning mine in Nassau County, but I'm sure the process is similar in NJ. We had an application signed by all houses affected by the street closure and we only needed a majority (100% not necessary). In order for the permit to be issued, we needed police and fire department approval as well. Once the permit is issued (we haven't gotten it yet), we will start collecting money and planning the fun stuff.

Re: How do you start a block party?
You have to contact your town and find out the permit process for a block party.
As for entertainment, there are DJs that have a block party package that includes bounce house, face painters, cotton candy, popcorn, character and music. That cost is split by all the house participating in the block party.
At our block party each house is responsible for food and drinks for their own guests only. Some houses set up stuff outside for all kids to play with (pool, bubbles, crafts, etc)

Re: How do you start a block party?
I am one of the organizers for our block party every summer. What was stated above is correct: majority needed, everyone responsible for their own guests, permits you can apply for on-line. Every town is different & has different rules. We get the whole package - bouncy house, water slide, DJ, cotton candy/ ice cone machine etc. But I find that I need at least 15 houses to make it monetarily possible. ($100 donation a home) Do you have enough homes on your block? If not, you could always tone it down and drop some of the activities.
