Ironically, "Repeal and replace"...

Ironically, "Repeal and replace"...
Means that Obama still "wins"...

He wasn't worried about having his name on anything, he wanted Universal Healthcare. By the GOP spending all of this time trying to rewrite it and replace it with a different version, they are admitting that Obama accomplished what a dozen former Presidents tried to do (both R and D), but couldn't, and that the U.S. wants and needs some type of health care plan.

Obama was the first President to pass "Universal Healthcare", and that can never be taken away from history... no matter how hard the GOP is trying to do just that...

Ironically,

I was reading an article about the new bill.....not really sure what they are trying to accomplish with taking coverage away for a higher price.

It's two-fold.

First and foremost is to undo anything that Obama did, at any cost...

2nd is to give major tax breaks and huge financial benefits to the super rich and corporations.

People bought the "reduce taxes" tagline but should be grossly disappointed because those cuts are going to the rich and their taxes will not go down at all.

Ironically,

How does health insurance factor into taxes?

Re: Ironically, "Repeal and replace"...

I'm terrified about the cuts to Medicaid.

FIL lives in a nursing home and is on Medicaid to pay for it. Medicare picks up the medical part. He's exhausted his meager savings and based on his monthly income, qualifies as "poor".
There has been talk about families paying part of the cost of care. At $460 per day, the cost of a shared room in the nursing home, there is no freaking way in hell that we can afford to pay even some of that, pay for our living expenses, and still save for my own retirement. DH is retired already.

Ironically,

I can't wrap my head around the GOP's faith that their plan will reduce premiums. They are defunding the program by eliminating (i) taxes on the wealthy and insurers, and (ii) individual and employer mandates. Do they really think that insurers are going to reduce their rates after they lose this steady source of income? Again, the rich will get a break and the middle class will get slammed with either higher premium or losing health insurance entirely (most likely, because employers will choose to stop providing employee coverage). It's ridiculous.

The premiums HAVE to increase. With the individual mandate removed, and companies not being required to provide employee insurance, the healthy people won't be participating. That means that most of the people with insurance are those of us who use more than we contribute. The only way to sustain that is to raise premiums by a lot. That's the fundamental way that all insurance works... You need a lot of people who don't use the insurance to cover the people that do use it.

Exactly. As a country, it is shameful that our government sets forth a plan that rewards the rich with a tax refund while sentencing some poor, elderly and/or sick people to death for lack of health care. Oligarchy at its finest!
