Where do you buy tires?
My car is at the dealership now, for some minor work, but I know I also need tires. The prices they quoted me aren't terrible, and it would be convenient to just have them do it, but I'm not comfortable with the answers I am getting about the specific tire options. Where else is a decent place to go - western Suffolk county, preferably
_______________
Thanks everyone! Went with the dealer because the price they offered for the tires I wanted was actually less than Mavis and just a little bit more than Tire Rack ($23 more) - so to not have to deal with bringing it somewhere else, it was easier to let them just do it.

I bought 4 tires from Mavis about 2 years. No complaints.

Pep Boys BJ's Walmart
We now use a local tire place in Bayport or Blue Point, can't recall the name since my DH handles the tires, but it's a smaller business that has some good deals

Mavis, or Costco.
If you do lots of driving Mavis offers tire insurance. It was like 10 dollars a tire and one winter I used it 3x. All the potholes on the LIE were horrible and three times I got a new tire for free (except for paying for insurance on the new tire I was getting for free!) It was very worth it.

Tire rack! They have a great program too if your tire you bought from them gets damaged... I had a nail in my tire that couldn't be patched and they replaced it free of charge sent directly to my mechanic.

We price them out at tire rack and our local place. The local place winds up being a slightly better deal since they will do free tire rotations and plug a flat if needed.

Even if you don't buy from tirerack, it's a great resource to see what types of tires there are, how good they are, etc.
I go to my local mechanic. I trust him. I tell him what type of tires I want, and the approximate price range, and he'll give me some options that he likes in that category.

Thanks - I checked out their site and it turns out the price the dealer was offering for the tires I wanted was just about the same (about $23 more than Tire Rack and about $20 less than Mavis) - for that little difference, and since my car is already there, I just had them do it (and they include the tire replacement warranty also). But glad to know that the price was a reasonable price. Thanks!

Go to All Weather Tires in Huntington Station... it's a fantastic place and has the online reviews to prove it. Very knowledgeable guys, honest, fairly priced!

Usually my mechanic. I pick tires and he orders from somewhere or I ship to him from tire rack. Last time, I wanted same day and Costco had my tires in stock, so I went there.
