need fitbit advice

so dh went for his annual physical today and he needs to exercise more (duh) and track his heart rate. I have no idea how fitbits work. can someone recommend one?

he turned 50 this year and got a cornucopia of referrals for things that have to be checked! what a birthday present! he's not excited. but at least he went.
