molescum contagiuson
Has anyone's child ever had molescum contagiuson? My older child has it on legs, I took to Ped Derm several weeks ago and he said leave it alone and it will go away (could take months up to a year to go away). I noticed my younger child now has same bumps and when I was at my derm appt today I asked about it. This Derm said she likes to treat it asap. Looking for info on what other derms may have told you about it? Not sure what to do since I have opposite opinions from different docs.

Yes!!!
DS 2 battled it for about 15 months.
We used Retin-A, Zymaderm, EmuAid, Tea Tree Oil, and we had a few burned off by the derm using beetlejuice.
Other than the beetlejuice - the other treatments stopped it from itching and spreading but, it didn't go away.
The reason why you are getting two opinions is that there really isn't a good answer - and what works for some might not work for all. My friend also used Apple Cider vinegar.
I stopped treatments last March when DS was hospitalized for dehydration after multiple stomach bugs. Right after, it just scabbed over and disappeared.

Oh and the dermatologist's "treatment" is basically using beetle juice to burn them off. They only did a few at a time and it worked on those but, there were always others so we stopped that. We were charged a copay each time we visited so we felt it wasn't worth it.

Yes, both dds had it. Dd1 had one single bump on her wrist. I left it alone for awhile, but finally used a cream the dermatologist gave me to dry iit up. It dried up the whole area around it too and it looked bad for awhile, but did go away.
It actually could take up to a year and a half to go away. It does and will go away on its on.
Dd2 has one on her forehead which is just starting to go away without doing anything.

Uggh dd1 battled this for months and months. The ped just said to wait it out. We did try some cider vinegar but dd complained that it hurt so we stopped. Not sure how related it was but we started adding tea tree oil to her baths and they all disappeared in under 2 weeks.

Thanks for all the replies! Maybe I will try the cider vinegar and tea tree oil first and see what happens before I take them both to the derm. It doesn't bother either of them, (no itching etc) so I was fine to leave it alone but then the derm today said to treat it asap so I started to worry.

Yes, my ds had it pretty bad on his legs. Ped said to leave it, but I took ds to dermatologist who treated it. It took only two treatments before it totally cleared up.

I would try this for sure. My friend's daughter had it, and ACV worked like a charm for her! It's contagious, so I would work to get rid of it asap

If it doesn't itch them - it won't spread but, it won't heal either (if that makes sense). They have to scab over to heal.
I used the tea tree oil in the bath. Unfortunately it has a distinct smell so DS caught on. A lot of the treatments help soothe it so they won't itch it which stops the spread.
If you have multiple DC - don't let them bathe together or share towels, washcloths, etc. We were able to keep it contained to DS 2 thankfully.

I used this years ago for very bad foot warts from a pedicure place. It was a trial to see if I could avoid major derm surgery. It's miraculous (but I remember was expensive).

Yes it really is a miracle drug. Our insurance covered it, so it wasn't much out of pocket, thankfully.
