Does anyone have a four foot decorative fence going down your front lawn?
If so, how far from the curb is the fence? From what I read, I believe my town is saying four feet, but is that from the curb or where the line ends of town property? I have some utility covers right where I am putting it. I know I have to put it before that, but not sure if I am expected to come in more. When I am driving I see some houses have them very set back and some are not far from the curb. I want as much fence as I can get to divide my property from my neighbors.

I do and it's about 4 feet from the curb. My utility covers are in front of it.

Oh wow...so you have utility covers too. Can I ask how far the fence starts from where the utility cover ends? The place I dealt with today said most people come 10 feet from curb, but that is too much. I will probably get more estimates now. Can I ask who you used?

Are you in Nassau or Suffolk. When I lived in Nassau we had a fence that started about 1 foot in from the sidewalk. There was another 3 feet of grass between the sidewalk and the curb. That was the right of way. Now in Suffolk, I see people go all the way to the curb with fences. Another idea, when we bought our house we had hedges that went all the way from our yard fence to the curb. Not a distinct fence but it served the same purpose, was 6 foot + tall and nothing was getting through those suckers.

I am in Suffolk. Yes, I see all different measurements of when a fence starts from a curb when I am driving around. The fence place I was going to use called for a mark out for utilities. They haven't come yet to do that. Not sure if that is going to make things worse. I definitely cannot start a fence 10 feet from curb. Too much still open.

Who does a mark out? Do they also confirm property line? Any idea of cost? Thanks

I believe it's a number that is called when there is work going to be done to verify where wires are from utility companies. I am not sure but I think each company comes out. It has nothing to do with property line. I believe it is free of charge.
