Doctors offices

Just wondering what you think of dirty doctors offices. I went to a new doctor yesterday for a physical. I walked into the waiting room and wanted to turn and walk right out. The waiting room was gross. There were plastic chairs from BJs which was not a problem except they were dirty. One side had plastic chairs the other side had cushy green dirty chairs. The floor had that green thin rug but not really rug more like what they put down on mini golf courses it looked like. I then thought ok maybe the examining rooms would be different, I had to give it a chance. I get called in and again it was old fashioned with mismatched furniture in the room, old dirty floor and a I wanted to leave. I just think they should be a little more modernized with up to date equipment.
The PA was younger then me which was fine but I just felt like I was not getting what I usually got from my old doctor. I switched when me moved but now I think Im going to travel back to her.

Re: Doctors offices

To me, "old" and "dirty" are different. Older/out of date furniture doesn't bother me as much as actual filth. I've been to a drs. office where the exam room had obvious dirt on the floors. The corners of the floor in the room had grime that has never been cleaned. Dirt is a No No. We all know we risk catching something when you go to a Drs. office. But when it's obviously not cleaned/sanitized, I feel like you're asking for it. You could also tell a lot from using their bathroom as well.

Re: Doctors offices

I left a couple of doctors offices (general practitioners, not my specialists) because their waiting rooms were filthy. And I told the person at the front desk exactly why I was leaving.

I feel like - if you can't keep the front area near and presentable, which is a fairly easy task, then how are you keeping the back areas? How are you storing sterile equipment?

It's like going to a restaurant and seeing a filthy bathroom...crud in the corners, that kind of filth. Not one-off disgusting patrons who piss on the seat.
If you can't keep the bathroom clean, something EVERYONE can see, then WTF is going on in the kitchen?

Edit - as for the age of the PA, that would not bother me. The doctor who saved my life is only slightly older than I am, and that makes conversations/concerns very easy for me.

Oh no. I'd hightail it out of there. Outdated doesn't bother me. The exam rooms at my OBs office looked like Blanche Devereaux's bedroom.

The age of the PA wouldn't bother me as long as they seemed competent.

Bottom line, though- if you're uncomfortable, find a new doctor. It doesn't matter how any of us feel.
