.... Buy a car with out a spare tire? I didn't realize that so many car manufacturers are making cars without donuts. They come with a repair and patch kit. Acura, most hybrid cars, hyundai. Mostly sedans to save gas mileage and trunk space. If you have a blow out I feel like you are screwed anyway.

My last 5 cars have only had run flats with no spare. I recently hit a pothole and blew the sidewall of my tire. Luckily I am still covered for towing under my car warranty. You can always buy a spare and keep it in the trunk.

I have a Caravan which I believe didn't come with one but dh added it. Even still, it's crazy difficult to get to it. I got a flat last summer out alone with both my girls. My dad came to help bc triple a was really backed up and it was a heat wave. He couldn't figure out how to get at the spare and eventually dh came and changed it just before triple a finally showed up. I had no idea until that day that the car didn't come with one or that dh had gotten one himself.

my mechanic would not be thrilled if I did. I never thought about it until I brought in a used car for him to look at and he caught it.

Re: Would you....
A lot of car manufacturers are going this for weight reduction, save a gallon or so on MPG's and trunk space. I was really reluctant when I leased my Acura. I have the roadside assistance but I don't love the fact that I don't have one in the trunk.

My mini Cooper had run flat tires so you didn't have a spare.

Re: Would you....
It wouldn't be a disqualifying point for me if I really loved the car, because I would just buy a donut and kit for the trunk.

Re: Would you....
I'm not sure. I've had nails in my tires so I just fill them with air until I can get to a tire place. I also have AAA so I'd just call for assistance even if I needed my spare put on. I guess the difference between a tow and a spare isn't that great if you aren't blowing your tires out very frequently - just an infrequent inconvenience.

It wouldn't bother me bc I have roadside assistance.
Idk how to change a flat anyway so it's not like I'd be changing it myself even if I had a flat

That's what I'm thinking. My DH is like 'what if that happens on the way to picking up the kids and you are inconvenienced. Or if it is a blow out and there is no spare to put on Can't patch a blow out. It's not like blow outs happen all the time. It's just that 2 or 3 winters ago when I was also commuting to Brooklyn via the Belt, I had a lot of tire issues. Haven't had any the last two years. I now drive around with a tire inflator in my trunk.

I would look into if you can add one. DH said most have a place to put a spare but you may have to buy a cover. My van had a spot but we had to buy a spare and cover for it.
