All-Inclusive Resort or Cruise?

We'd like to surprise my stepson with a family vacation for his HS graduation. Ideally, we'd love to bring one of his friends along, since there is a 8 year age gap btwn him and our son. Which would you suggest is the best way to go?

I've looked up all-inclusive resorts in DR but am confused b/c they have meal plans -- I thought all-inclusive means everything (aside from alcohol and excursions) are included.

Any insight? This will be our first family vacation since 2009

Thanks

Re: All-Inclusive Resort or Cruise?

I like cruises because I like to see different places vs just being stuck to a resort.

Cruises are so much fun!! Plus, there is something for everyone AND you get to see a few different places. For what you get, the pricing is pretty good and hard to beat. I vote for the cruise! Chat Icon

Re: All-Inclusive Resort or Cruise?

Alcohol is included in All inclusive resorts, we stood at the RIU Palace Punta Cana two years ago and had a great time.

I also love cruises but I see your DH nixed that idea. I am not a fan of staying on the boat for long periods of times as well. I do 1 or 2 days max at sea in a row. so i pick one where is 2 days at sea maybe going but 1 coming back. I get cabin fever on day 2 of the boat.Chat Icon

I prefer all-inclusives. When I go on vacation, I want to be able to spend my day however I want - without watching the clock. I feel like on a cruise, there is a cattle herd to get off the ship (and sometimes you have to get off very early if you are going to have a decent amount of time in any particular port), then rush to a beach or whatever excursion you are doing where you are constantly watching the clock to make sure you make it back to the ship on time. Yes, there are tons of things to do on the ship, but if I am going to the Caribbean, its mostly to spend time at the beach - and that time is very limited when you cruise

I would suggest the Paradisus Palma Real. Should be perfect for you. All inclusive in Punta Cana
