A friend would like to know recommendations for pumps? I remember reading there's one better than the Medela one but I can't recall the name. Does anyone know? Thanks!

Maybe you're thinking of the Spectra? I bought one since I already had the Medela Freestyle and had heard great reviews for the Spectra. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype for me so I wound up using the Freestyle and the Spectra never got used.

MrsB612: how did the Spectra specifically compare to the Medela for you? Does it pull less milk, take longer to letdown, is it loud, does it have more small pieces to wash? I'm pregnant and have a Medela In Style from my first daughter and have read enough good things about the Spectra S2 that I'm considering getting one, but want to keep my expectations in check. Thanks!

For me it was a combination. I barely got any milk w/ the spectra. I thought it was maybe bc the flanges were too small so I purchased bigger ones, but still had the same issue. I would use the Freestlye right after and would get what I needed so it def was not a supply issue.

I was sort of confused bc everyone raved about it so much. I purchased mine on Amazon and it couldn't be returned. I believe if you purchase directly from Spectra you can return it within 10 days if you're not satisfied.

I cant speak for the Spectra pumps, but i used medela and found the pump in style advanced to be wonderful! I also attempted to use the medela freestyle but didnt get nearly as much milk as I did with the pump in style

I've never used Medela, but never had to. I have 2 Spectra pumps- s2 stays in my office as it needs to be plugged in, 9 stays at home/travels with me as it holds a charge and is smaller and lighter. I had a great experience with both. The s2 is more powerful and gets the job done faster but both are efficient, quiet(er), and gentle. The most important part of these pumps is that they are closed system, meaning there's no way milk can get in the tubes or the machine which can cause mold. There are extra parts to wash (the backflow protector) but it was worth it to me for the peace of mind.

I liked the Medela Pump in Style. It was so easy to get accessories and effective. But for DS 2 I ALSO got a PJs Comfort pump for free through my job and it is AMAZING! It's a little pricey if you have to buy it but many companies have lactations programs with a company called Limerick, if she does she may be able to score one for free.
It's a hospital grade pump. It's so gentle, efficient, and I get a ton of milk out of it.
