Daycare Questions (especially if you or DH are a teacher?)

I am due with my first in September and want to start looking into daycare.

Not really sure where to start but are there any parents out there that are teachers? My DH is a teacher, and we would of course love to not have to pay for daycare over the summer since DH will be home.

Do any places like this exist? I understand many will not because they would be holding your place for ~2 months but was hoping some may cater towards teacher schedules?

Not sure where you are located but Kiddie Academy in Farmingdale will! They hold 2 weeks of daycare costs in escrow and this essentially holds your place. I am a teacher and choose to send DD to daycare 2 times a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) over the summer -- I like that it gives her continuity, she gets to see her friends, we still have plenty of time to do things together on the other days, and I get my laundry, grocery shopping, and house cleaning done on the days that she's there so that our weekends are free. Feel free to FM me with any questions!

Re: Daycare Questions (especially if you or DH are a teacher?)

We used tutor time and it was a similar policy to pp. Their summer "camp" was a separate entity, and I could send dd as much or as little (or not at all) as I wanted those 2 mos., with her spot held full-time for September.

Is your child still at Tutor Time? My friend sends her DD to Tutor Time Melville and apparently their policy recently changed -- last year she was able to do what I did (reduce to part time over the summer or pull out all together with her money is escrow to secure spot for when she returned in September) and this year she was told that each person wanting to make a change to their schedule must put in a request with the director which would be evaluated on a case by case basis. She inquired with the director who told her that since she was one of the first people to submit the request, she didn't foresee any issues. Well, just the other day she was notified that her request was denied -- she either needs to keep her daughter in full time (which is crazy because she too is a teacher and doesn't need full time daycare over the summer since she's off) or she can pull her out all together and then she runs the risk of not having a spot come September (they will not guarantee her anything). If they don't have an immediate vacancy for her age group, she'd have to go on a waitlist. Absolutely crazy! Maybe its different for each Tutor Time location?

I paid a teacher rate. A bit higher per day, but I did not send DS on school holidays or summer and wasn't charged. This was in the East Islip/Great River area.

each tutor time is individually owned so they can have their own policy. What they are doing at your friends IMO dumb and just a way to get money. I am sure plenty of people will sign their kids up for daycare over the summer with the thought the would start in a couple of months and I am sure they hold those peoples spots with a deposit. So if she pulls her she get her deposit back and then what she can't say OK I am singing her up now for september take my deposit. I would find another daycare and pull her from the spot just based on principal!

The daycare we sent DD to was a 10 month program and you can sign up for optional "camp" over the summer. I think a lot of the daycares we looked at were like that.

Our daycare is on a school schedule, with the school year starting in September and ending in June - then the summer session starts. I think youll be able to find a similar program for sure.

Def look into KA Farmingdale...great place...I switched from TT in levittown...you just have to check to see if they have any spots in the infant room they sometimes have a wait list.

My friend is a teacher and pretty sure Kiddie Academy in Farmingdale does this

Wanted to add check out Toddler Time (not Tutor time) in Seaford... they have a summer session that if you want ,you can pay for otherwise it is September through June.

im in western nassau and use an in-home daycare. she's cheap and doesn't make me pay on school breaks/days off/sick days. Ask around on a farmingdale FB group page and you'd be surprised how many people around you probably watch out of their home

TT in Holbrook was like that. They held spots over the summer with a deposit for September that held your spot. Not sure if that's changed recently.

Kiddie Kampus West in Bayport follows the school calendar, Sept. to June. They are closed on school breaks and then they have the option of summer session for those who need it.

I think a lot of places have what you're looking for.
