Any dairy-free households?
I'm thinkng of transitioning to dairy free (for numerous health related reasons) and I'm wondering what the best substitutes are for cheese and milk.
My dd still like milk at night and loves mac and cheese.
I'm looking for the cleanest type of substitute.
TIA

Re: Any dairy-free households?
For milk, I like coconut, or almond coconut blend - I use Califia.
Cheese - I just skip it. I haven't found anything I like, and many contain so much soy, not worth it for me. A lot of people I know use Daiya products, I just don't like how fake cheese tastes.

Personally, I just eliminated dairy when I was dairy free- Daiya is the closest cheese substitute I found and I didn't like it- It does not provide the same nutrition as real cheese- it is a combination of starch , fat and pea protein- SO Coconut milk ice cream was the best dairy free ice cream- I did not find a milk replacement or coffee creamer I liked.

I eliminated dairy when I was trying to figure out if my diet was causing DS' eczema. I liked coconut milk and yogurt. Coconut milk was not the same as regular milk. The fake cheese tasted gross. I could only tolerate it when it was melted (like on pizza). I think it was only bearable then cause of the sauce and slices.

I use almond milk. I never found a non dairy yogurt I liked. I hate the taste of soy.

Re: Any dairy-free households?
We aren't completely dairy free, but we've given up a lot. We drink almond, cashew, or a blend for milk(though we don't drink much, use it more in cooking). I use a lot of coconut milk (I make whipped cream from that). I have had a few almond milk cheeses that are ok, but some still have caesin in them, which I don't love. I have made my own "ricotta" from almonds and it is a lot of work, but so good! Half and half was hardest for me, but I like the califa farms one a lot. I like the coconut milk yogurt. Also, protein powder was a challenge for me, but I found a plant based one that is good.
