A few questions regarding Disney World

So my ds will be just over 3. He hasn't used a stroller in forever. Do you think I need one for Disney? He still naps and I am afraid he will get tired of walking. If so is it easier to bring anstroller or rent one and what do you do with it if the whole family goes in a ride?

What kind if bag do you bring into the park? A backpack? Can you bring it on the rides with you?

What is the deal with fast passes? Do we need them?

You absolutely need a stroller. The amount of walking is overwhelming. We chose to bring a stroller instead of renting because we wanted to have a stroller while in the airport. If you want to rent one, look into Kingdom Strollers. The strollers Disney rents at the parks are awful and you can't exit the park with it. There is tons of designated stroller parking at Disney. You leave your stroller and go on the ride.

We brought a backpack. Yes, you can bring it on the rides.

You definitely want to book fast passes. Lines can be excruciatingly long, especially for the more popular rides (ex: Peter Pan).

A few questions regarding Disney World

you definitely need a stroller!!! my DS was almost 6 when we went in August, and he still fell asleep almost every day in the stroller! LOL its A LOT of walking, and id rather push a stroller than listen to him whine HAHA plus, its a great place to stash your stuff!
AS far as bags- i take 2 bags when we go. I have a backpack with snacks, ponchos, water bottles, sunblock, maybe a change of socks or clothes. I leave that in the stroller while we're on rides. ( the not-so-valuable stuff) THEN i also take a small cross-body type bag that i wear on the rides, and put my phone, camera, whatever valuable stuff in there so i have that with me and i'm not leaving it with the stroller when its parked.
there are stroller parking areas all over the parks- so you leave it there. the workers will often move them around, so make sure you put some kind of sign or something on it so you know which one is yours Chat Icon
You can rent a City Mini stroller from a company like Apple Stroller or Kingdom Stroller.. they are WAY more comfortable than the Disney ones, and if you're at a Disney hotel they will deliver it right to your hotel for you when you get there.
AS far as fast passes- they are FREE, so you definitely want to do it. you can book them ahead of time, for 3 rides a day. and once you use them up (or the time expires) you can try to get a 4th one (using the Disney app on your phone).
a fast pass basically just gives you a one hour time frame that you can go to that ride, and go in a faster line. So, like, i might book a fast pass for 7 Dwarves Mine Train for 10:30-11:30. SOO i can go to that ride anytime between 10:30 and 11:30 and get in the Fast Pass line. BUT you can only use it once (so its not like you can go through the fast pass line as much as you want in that time) They will scan you magic band, so they know you already used your fast pass.

Yes an umbrella stroller. Not sure if you're on site or not, but if not it's a trip to get TO the park. Disney is great about brining in your own food. Freeze water bottles and pack lunch and keep in stroller. Also everyone just leaves their strollers to go on rides and I guess no one is really out to steal.

Best bag is a small cross body to keep cash, wallet, phone, camera.

As far as he fast passes yes, there is an app. I felt like I mastered the app and in two days went on every single ride without ever waiting more than 20m. Also used the app to secure reservations in the restaurant that were originally booked.

It depends on your kid. We've gone without strollers... but napping is tough. Mine stopped napping at 3, but before that, we would take a stroller or go after nap (like for the Halloween party). With strollers, what worked the best was picking up a cheap umbrella stroller for $20 in Florida. It is a bit of a pain to drag around a stroller and you keep parking it and searching for it. The park wasn't THAT big and there are shuttles from parking lot to monorail or boat to Disney.

For fast passes, last time we went, I literally booked them the day before and it turned out great. Book early stuff so you can keep adding on stuff when you use up your 3. The things that were booked were the roller coasters and the mine train.

I brought my purse. It was fine and easy. We brought two small kiddie water bottles that we refilled at water fountains as needed. I took it on rides.

A few questions regarding Disney World

My DD never ever napped. Her last trip to Disney (we're vacation club members) was August, at age 8. She fell asleep in the stroller. She is not going this year, in part because she has completely outgrown the stroller, but not outgrown being cranky and tired and needing a nap from 10 miles of walking.

Yes, I would NOT do Disney without a stroller at that age. In fact, we went when my kids were 1.5 and 6 yrs old and I rented a double stroller, BEST thing ever. Even my 6 yr old needed a break since we were in the parks open to close...........she even napped on some days and she had given up napping 3 yrs prior!!

I used my LL Bean canvas tote bag.

Absolutely book FP's. It costs nothing and saves you the time waiting on line for the popular rides.

ETA - We rented from Kingdom Strollers, they were great!

You absolutely need a stroller! Disney is huge and lines can be long. There is stroller parking near all the rides. We brought ours because DD was only 1.5 so it was easier to use it at the airports.

We brought several bags. A cooler bag, a back for snacks, a bag of personal items I wouldn't leave in the stroller, and we had a diaper bag at the time. Left everything in the stroller except for the small bag with my wallet, phone, etc.

Big yes on fast passes, but I'm not expert so I have no advice, we just randomly picked stuff.

There is also something called child or parent swap (assuming you have an older child from you picture), for rides your 3 year old cant go on. So if DH fast passes the Snow White Mine Train, you can fast pass something else. So he'll go on with a child, they give him a ticket that allows you to use the fast past lane and go on next. I don't know if that makes sense, someone more well versed can probably explain better.

Definitely have a stroller! I usually bring mine but, I know many who have rented as well and had a good experience. There is stroller parking by every ride. Just make sure your stroller is clearly marked so you can find it - many people have similar strollers.

When my kids were younger (diapers) I brought a backpack but, this trip I just used a cross body bag. I left things like waters, change of clothes, etc in the stroller so I carried very little on me.

Definitely do fast passes - the last time we went the lines were ridiculous and my kids have no patience so they saved the day.

Re: A few questions regarding Disney World

What type of stroller do you use for older kids? My girls will be 7 & 5 when we go. I never even thought about a stroller but it sounds like I might want one.

my DS was close to 6 when we went, and we used our City Mini ( we pretty much hold onto it just for Disney trips LOL ) and it worked really well i think. although, he's on the smaller side....
you can rent a city mini from Kingdom Strollers. if anything, it makes a nice spot to stash your stuff for the day LOL

Thanks! I'm definitely going to rent one since we don't have any strollers anymore.

Re: A few questions regarding Disney World

We rented a double jogging stroller when my kids were almost 2 and 5.5 years old. When we went to Disneyland, we just used our lightweight stroller with DS2 who was almost 4. The park is much less spread out, but my 7.5 year old was definitely tired by the end of the day. He managed, but there's no way my younger one would've been okay without a stroller.

We used a backpack and generally put it in one of the cubbies when we got onto the ride.

Definitely get fast passes and use the child swap for rides that your older one may want to ride, but your younger one can't.

I asked on travel board if I need double so 6 year old can sit and got an almost unanimous yes. She hasn't been in a stroller in years, but apparently at disney it's helpful, especially for traveling back at night. We are borrowing a double umbrella for the trip.

my girls will be 7 and 5 when we go in August and we are renting a double. We went last year and they both needed the break from time to time. I feel like it is a must have still.
