Cord Blood
This may be a bit of a personal question but has anyone thought about preserving the cord blood at birth? My OB has mentioned it to me and DH and I are considering it.
Anyone else have any experience or thoughts on this?

Re: Cord Blood
i did a lot of research and it was a VERY hard decision to make. in the end we decided to just donate and not have it banked.
it was such a hard choice to make and i still hope we made the right one...

Did you look into donating it? I heard you can but I don't know how I'd go about doing it. TIA!

Re: Cord Blood
i WOULD be interested in donating also. I got the info on it but I am a multiple pregnancy so its twice as expensive for me..and in small miniscule lettering on the bottom of the brochure it said less then 1% of cord blood taken will be able to be used for a blood relative...so I am thinking I might donate.

Re: Cord Blood
I am leaning towards banking it. But I want to do some more research and get some feedback from my OB.

Re: Cord Blood
ABSOLUTELY doing this just havent decided with which company.
the cord blood is used for many many different things- to cure lukemia, other cancers, stem cells, can help you and DH and other siblings as well, anemia, thalesmia- there is a list of diseases that its good for. and for the money its worth it. 2k for the first year and then its cheap every year, I forget if its 125 or 165 a year and you do it till they are 18, we may just pay it all now , you get a discount if you do. the 3 we are looking into are CBR Viacord Cryogenics

Re: Cord Blood
We banked Kaylee's cord blood and it was the best decision we ever made. My DD ended up with some complications when she was born and we almost had to use it when she was only 3 days old. The research they are doing now is insane. I also have a brother who is paralyzed and a SIL who suffered a TBI and we are hoping that some day maybe Kaylees cord blood could be used to help one of them. Best of luck. We used viacord and i love them. THey keep you really up to date on all of their research.
