Has anyone traveled to Canada with their LO?
I'm just trying to confirm that they only need a birth certificate to get into Canada and back in the US. Even though that's what the websites say, I'm still nervous.

We go visit family several times a year and needed a passport for DD to fly. We got hers at 2 months.

Re: Has anyone traveled to Canada with their LO?
We drove I think 3 years ago with my then 2 y/o DD- her passport didn't come in time and it was fine with her birth certificate. Not sure if rules are different for flying. If that's what it says on the website then I'm sure it's fine. That's what I followed.

if you fly into Canada you need passport - if you drive into Canada birth certificate is fine.
We flew to Buffalo and then drove over

Re: Has anyone traveled to Canada with their LO?
We are driving to Canada this summer and while my husband and I have passports, we are just bringing birth certificates for our children.

Re: Has anyone traveled to Canada with their LO?
Not true. NOT TRUE. Everyone needs a passport for all border crossings.
I am a Canadian living in the US. I drive and fly home multiple times a year with children. And my father is an immigration attorney. Unless you have an enhanced driver's license for land crossings, ALL U.S. citizens including children NEED passports.

That's not what the website says about kids. I'm going to call tomorrow. We are driving across so I don't know if that makes a difference.

It's a bit misleading because it says you need a birth certificate AND photo ID for kids. But kids that young don't have photo ID unless they have a passport.

Please let me know what you find out. I thought I was in the clear with just BC's for the kids. If I need passports I should get a move on.

I called both the US Customs and Border at the Canadian border and the Canadian Customs (CBIS) this morning. I was able to find direct phone numbers instead of a 1-800 that nobody answers. Both agents confirmed that a birth certificate (original or certified copy) is sufficient to enter and exit BY LAND. Flying you must have a passport.

Thank you! We will be driving over to the Canadian side of Niagara falls so just wanted to make sure we were good!

When I was younger and my bro went to school upstate, we used to make the extra trek up to Canada (Niagra Falls like you said) and a birth certificate was always sufficient. Have fun!

And to be clear, that's just for minors under 16. Anyone else needs a passport or the enhanced drivers license.
