Relearning the ways of bread feeding
2 questions: 1. My 6 week old DD vomits her milk a lot. I took her to the Dr. today and she is gaining weight very quickly. She gained over a pound in 11 days. The Dr says it's because my milk is coming in too fast. I was advised to pump a little before feeding so she doesn't gag, or spit up. Isn't pumping more only going to increase my supply?
2. If I pump a few oz a few times a day can I add warm breast milk to cold milk? Or do I need to bag them separately?

Re: Relearning the ways of bread feeding
DS1 was 8lbs 1oz at birth, dropped to 7.2 in the hospital and was up to 13.1 at 2 months. His weight gain slowed down a lot after that. I wouldn't associate the weight gain with an oversupply, but the spitting up could be from that. I think pumping could make an oversupply worse, but maybe hand expressing could help. I'd probably try a different nursing position first that helps to counteract a fast letdown. I can't remember which position, but Kellymom.com should be able to help.
I never added warm milk to cold milk. I just bought a bunch of extra Medela bottles to store the milk in the refrigerator before I was ready to use it or freeze it.

Like pp said, position might help. Laid back position would probably be good to sort of go against gravity (and it's really comfy anyway). Also, maybe pull her off when you let down and grab a towel or burp cloth then put her back on. Block feeding may also help so she gets plenty of hind milk and maybe it will help your supply regulate. I would even take dd off, burp her, and our her right back on the same side rather than offering the other until my supply calmed down. Granted she was very underweight at birth but she averaged 1.5oz/day the first two months! I think pumping before will only prolong the problem.
As for combining pumped milk, I vaguely recall that you can but you want to add less warm milk than what your already have cold. I'll be honest, even with a preemie, I really just winged it when it came to all those rules. She did fine.

Not sure this is he same or helpful but dd was screaming after feedings. I tried cutting all dairy, eggs, my decaf coffee and no hange. Then I cut broccoli and cauliflower and she stopped! I think also I had to cut beans or of my diet for a while. Maybe something you're eating is coughing the reaction?

As PP suggested, try nursing in the laid back position.
I've added warm BM to cold and never had any issues. Did it for DS for a whole year and doing it now with DD.

I had an oversupply and DD has a milk allergy so I to cut out all dairy when she was a month old. I pumped first thing in the morning about a half hour to hour before she ate because I was very full first thing in the morning. Throughout the day she nursed on one side per feeding until my body adjusted. It was bit of trial and error. Good luck

This! Definitely laid back. I had to pump or hand express a little before DD nursed at that age but that's because I was SO engorged she couldn't get my nipple into her mouth. My supply still regulated just fine.
