40th Birthday Gift
How much would you spend on a 40th birthday gift? Neither are very close friends. Any good ideas for a gift or go with a GC of some sort? One is a woman and one is a guy.

Re: 40th Birthday Gift
Are you invited to a party or just giving to a coworker? I think it depends on why you're giving the gift? Is it a couple?
COuple I say you can give a GC to a nice restaurant BOttle of wine is always nice For her you can get her a Spa Finder GC

Re: 40th Birthday Gift
Alcohol is always safe. I recently gave a spa gift certificate for a massage.

Not a couple. Two separate parties that we were invited to.

Re: 40th Birthday Gift
Just wanted to add that I stressed for a few 40th birthdays and I would say half or so of the guests didn't bring a gift. I always take something, often wine. DH has taken a nice bottle of champagne or scotch.

Ok good to know. Thanks! These are the first two of the wave of my friends turning 40 so I wasn't sure. One party is at a bar and the other is at home.

Re: 40th Birthday Gift
I'd say to spend around $50.
If you don't know them well, a gift card is the way to go.

I recently planned an outing for a friend who turned 40. I was the only one who brought a gift.
I personally wouldn't take a gift to a bar celebration if I wasn't close. Just me though.
I'm 38, turning 39 next year so we go to a lot of 40th birthdays. Not so different than a 35th or 38th. In our circles, we usually don't give gifts to adult friends.

Got it. I had a 40th party over the summer and received lots of alcohol, spa GC's, jewelry, Nordstrom GC, funny coffee cup, etc.
Can't go wrong with a bottle of something.
