I was a nanny and always drove the child around.
Now as a parent, I have a babysitter a few hours a day and it is vital to me that she be willing to drive. She is my back up for pick ups and such. She runs errands and things like that with him and I have no problem at all with it. He is learning how to behave in the community.

I should add she is only partime , like 15 hours a week or less. I trust and I am fine with it but dh is adamantly against it.

I don't have a nanny who comes to my house, but i do have a caregiver who has watched him since he was a baby and she has full license to drive him around as needed.
Curious why your DH would not want the nanny to drive? doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a nanny?

We use a babysitter at her house and she drives. Next year I need her to bring Dd to preschool, so it's a necessity for me. Plus, I don't stay home all day with Dd bc we both get bored. I can't expect someone else to deal with her bored all day at home

In this case, no because she is never with her for more than 3 or so hours at a time and we have a park down the street that they go to, so boredom hasn't been an issue for the relatively short times they are together. For DH? Lack of total trust, worried she will get in an accident and something will happen when they are in public. We've had some bad babysitting experiences before, but I trust this lady and she has been wonderful for the past few months. We are going out and leaving her for a longer period than normal Saturday and I don't want her to have a bored kid on her hands, but DH is anxious.

understandable..
has she expressed an interest in driving her somewhere or are you guessing that she may want to. does she have a car seat?
maybe you could say that dh is nervous and you guys could do a 'test drive' all together so he can see how she drives?

Have had the same full time nanny (not live in) for 5+ years and she's never driven our kids anywhere. She would love to, but DH will never allow it.
(In all fairness, we don't really let anyone else drive our kids around...DH's history in law enforcement had him witness gruesome car wrecks - so he's overly cautious. As he tells me regularly, he'll never "un-see" a lot of what he saw.)
