Getting ready to start venturing out...

with my 2 month old DD. The ped told me I should wait until she was about 2 months to start taking her to stores and places with a lot of people. We've gone to visit my family and for walks, but I want to start taking her everywhere and not be so house bound. Any suggestions? What if she starts to scream and cry uncontrollably? How do you handle this? Any tips/advice would be great. I want her to get used to go out all the time!

BRU is a great place to pick stuff up and they have a nursing room and a diaper changing station. Plus, if she screams no one will care.

Luka did not enjoy the infant carrier around that age and the thing that saved me was the baby bjorn. I still bring it with just in case and if he cries I put him in it.

Re: Getting ready to start venturing out...

Ok, I started going out with Ava immediately because my PPD was so horrible and it was vital to my survival to get the hell out of this house. Anyway, I adopted the philosophy that if she started crying and screaming in the store, oh well. I would worry about it only if I had to. So, I never really worried about it, and she's never started crying or screaming in a store. If your DD does start to flip out in the store, it's ok, she's a baby.Chat Icon Just make sure you are prepared for anyhthing, like giving her a bottle in the middle of the store or changing her diaper in teh middle of the store or her clothes, whatever. I always felt like I was so prepared that no matter what happened, I could handle it. And I did. I'd say the worst thing that happened when she was first home from the hospital, maybe the third week and I had to go out to get some stuff and she pooped all over herself and the carseat and it was raining and I was far from home and had to change her in the back seat of my SUV. Her carseat was covered, her clothes were covered, etc. and I was all by myself, my c-section scar still fresh, climbing in the back of my truck to clean her and the seat. It was stressful, but I kept thinking, "Well, this is my first test as a mommy." I figured if I could handle that, I could handle anything. You'll see, you'll be just fine. Just go into it with the attitude that anything can happen, and you'll be fine.

I went out pretty much right away too and he slept every time I went shopping, it was actually wonderful... I would be in the stores for hours and he would just sleep away. It wasnt very good for the pocketbook though Chat Icon oh well. Enjoy it though because now at 15 months he screams in the stores, I cant hardly get anything anymore.

I agree with everything she said. I didnt add it because I always have my diaper bag filled with just incase stuff if I am going to be out for more than 1/2 hour. You will also probably learn to feed the baby while in your arms and push the carriage or feed the baby while he is in his carrier and push at the same time if you are bottle feeding. I always keep a tub of extra wipes in the car because I forgot to refill my carring case and good thing I was at my SIL because i would have been in trouble and I was able to fill it up their. I also keep baggies with me for those stinky diapers if I change him in the store and tehir is no garbage.
