Unfortunately, this has been happening for many many years. Anti-Semitism quadrupled in USA and all over Europe in the past 8 years. I know this because being Jewish, this is something that is on my radar. The media was quiet about it when it was convenient but now decided to speak up to link it to Trump.
Say what you will about Trump, but accusing him of Anti-Semitism is ridiculous. Half of his family is Jewish, he has excellent relationship with Israeli's PM (far better than our current president who showed Netanyahu nothing but disrespect during his entire term in the White House) and he has many Jews among his staff, including many of his political advisors. Believe me, if he was anti-Semitic I would have known about it! Unfortunately, it is my business to know those things...
So, if one is scared, they should have been scared for the past 8 years, not now...
Exactly!!! The media is making it worse IMO.

Exactly!!! The media is making it worse IMO.
I would say the people carrying out these heinous acts are making it worse. JMO.
The media just reports what's happened (on whichever side).

Rumor is Trump offered Sessions the AG position, yet another with a controversial history of racist remarks. How can you purely blame the media and ignore the fact that these are the men trump is pulling in? Of course people are coming out of the woodwork and feeling bolder about committing these acts.

Not commenting on all of this but I will say that the KKK flyers are nothing new in LI. It has happened many times and been in the news. Someone I know told me this happens a few times a year in Suffolk, esp in the Patchogue area. If you google will see articles over the past few years about flyers found.
I used to work at a grocery store in Oakdale in the 90's and probably once a year we'd have to call the police bc KKK literature was being slipped into grocery items (beer 6 packs, soda cases, etc.)

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with most of this. I'm also a Jew, active in the Jewish community, and I work for a very large Jewish nonprofit. So it's *also* my business to be in the know on these things. Especially in the NY area, the number of these types of incidents has not been what it is the last couple weeks. Of course it happens, but not to this magnitude, especially within NYC. Further, I'm not nearly as confident as you are that Trump isn't antisemitic. Just because he employs Jews doesn't mean he isn't - and he's made statements that suggest at the very least he holds extremely stereotypical views. But even if he is not - he appointed a man who if we're being JUDICIOUS has well documented ties to antisemitism and white supremacy. And that's me being kind. Bannon is an antisemite. And finally, regardless of the actual views of Trump and Bannon - the election and appointment have LEGITIMIZED antisemitism, racism, xenophobia and sexism in a way they were not before. They've given a voice and platform to the people carrying out these acts.
So, yes. I think it's perfectly reasonable to be more afraid now than I have been for the past 8 years.

I agree with Whatnow. And, I actually think the Media is giving these people a voice, not Trump. I was actually very naïve about anti-semetism in the NY area when I met my husband 13 years ago and I remember him proving to me how prevalent it was by pulling up numerous Newsday articles that were about anti-semetic events that were all recent at the time. It's just that nobody was really paying attention. Before Trump, a swastika on a college dorm room maybe made the college paper, now it's front page headlines on the NY Times.
I can't help but also think that this is a lot of young idiots with nothing better to do. I think that it will definitely die down.

Well, like I said, I vehemently disagree and have evidence-based reasons for my thoughts.
I also don't really care if it's "going to die down." It's happening now, at an alarming rate, and just letting it "die down" isn't enough for me.

I agree as well. I have dual citizenship with Israel and I follow this closely. Antisemitism has been on the rise tremendously on college campuses over the last 8 years. The left has made it socially acceptable to demonize and boycott Israel and, quite frankly, that is why I voted for Trump. Not good at posting a link but this article in the Washington Post talks about how college campuses have been- years before Trump. I am actually astounded how American Jews feel that Hillary was a safer choice for stopping antisemitism than Trump.

Interesting thanks for sharing. Can you explain more about why you think there is a rise in hate crimes (like swastikas with Trumps namd next to it). It appears that there are some white nationalists who accept Jewish peope and others that dont. I find the whole white supremacist thing fascinating yet disturbing.

I don't know anything about white supremacy. I only read about Republicans - and the Republican Party has been very strong supporters of Israel historically. I didn't feel that Obama was- and I was afraid Hillary would follow his policies- although Bill was a strong supporter.
