So a Trump supporter and a Clinton supporter come over for dinner

It actually isn't a joke. Tonight we had my sister & BIL, & DH's brother & SIL, over for dinner. They just left. We vowed not to talk politics, but of course, it came up. It was the most civil discussion I have witnessed regarding this election. One side is extremely pro-Trump, the other was all about Clinton and was very vocal about how upset and disgusted they were. But over dinner, they were so respectful of each other. BOTH sides agreed that we need to move on and see what this man is going to do before we all go getting passports and preparing to flee at 2 AM. BOTH sides agreed that whether he is racist or not, people who ARE racist took his words to the extreme, and now it is Trump's responsibility to speak to them and put a stop to it. BOTH sides agreed that the Obama's are a class act. They even both agreed that Clinton offered nothing but the SOS, and that if a Dem who offered REAL change were on the ticket, things might have happened differently last week. It was a beautiful thing to see no name calling, no nothing. Just mature, responsible adults on both sides, expressing their concerns and having the other sides acknowledge their concerns. I wanted us all to hold hands and sing Kumbaya. But I didn't. Because all I had to offer to the discussion was that I hated them both. Chat Icon

Because this is how adults should behave together.
Accepting of each other. You can have different views but still respect someone else's

That commen sense seems to be lost these days. It's sickening.

I'm glad your dinner went well.

It's so hot between both sides in my own family, my mother has banned any political conversations from happening. She is calling everyone and giving fair warning that they will be asked to leave the table. My mom doesn't play.

I actually had a civilized conversation with my co workers the morning after. My good friend voted Hillary, another Trump and of course you all know where I stand. We had a good talk about it.

DH and I have bowed out of Thanksgiving due to one family member who will be insufferable. He has never failed to let his feeling be known about the current president and I know he won't shut up or be at all civil about the election. So rather than put ourselves through that, we are staying home.
