How to Easily Be a White Ally to Marginalized Communities
I've been doing some reading tonight and came across this article. There's a lot of talk about privilege, a lot of accusations of being racist, xenophobic, bigoted around here so I thought it might be of interest to some people who are interested in learning more. I'm only putting this up as a source of information, take it as you will. Agree, disagree, whatever. I found it really eye-opening, especially as I worked through some of my own privilege tonight with the help of some friends who are more informed than me. It's not easy. I can be defensive and proud. This helped a lot. I'm not putting this up to create yet another argument on an already highly volatile forum but more so for those, like me, who are truly interested in the topic, so I respectfully request that if you disagree or have anything unproductive to say, to just move on.

"Don’t stop listening. Don’t tune out. Lean into your discomfort. Force yourself to consider other opinions, and understand why people might say something you find offensive."
"Your feelings might be hurt, sure. You might even be offended. But resist that urge, and make yourself listen. Lean into the discomfort. All of us are programmed by a culture that embeds racism, and if we are going to be allies we have to recognize we are all capable of racist actions?—?only by listening can we learn to do better."
