The Cinemax Theory of Racism
I found this interesting.
http://whatever.scalzi.com/2016/11/10/the-cinemax-theory-of-racism/
Some parts:
"If Trump’s administration indulges in the racism, sexism and religious and other bigotries that Trump and his people have already promised to engage in, we can assume it’s because his voters are just fine with that racism, sexism and religious and other bigotries — even if they claim to have voted for him for other reasons entirely. After all, Trump didn’t hide these things about himself, or try to sneak these plans in by a side door. They were in full view this entire time. If you vote for a bigot who has bigoted plans, you need to be aware of what that says about you, and your complicity in those plans."
[...]
"Well, so, okay. Let me give you an analogy here.
Let’s say you want HBO. So you go to your local cable provider to get HBO and the only way they’ll let you get HBO is to sign up for a premium channel package, which includes HBO but also includes Cinemax. Now, maybe you don’t want Cinemax, and you don’t care about Cinemax, and maybe never personally plan to ever watch Cinemax, but the deal is: If you want HBO, you have to sign on to Cinemax too. You have to be a Cinemax subscriber to get HBO. And you go ahead and sign up for the premium channel package.
Pop quiz: In this scenario, did you just subscribe to Cinemax?
And you may say, no, I subscribed to HBO, but I couldn’t get it without Cinemax. I’m an HBO subscriber, not a Cinemax subscriber."

Re: The Cinemax Theory of Racism
Im a registered Independent that voted for Clinton and just as devastated as everyone else about the results but engaging in this type of post election post mortem "why why whys" isnt going to help us all come together. I think this comment sums uo best my feelings:
Y’know what? I voted for the Stronger Together plan, which has some things I don’t like (“Yay Wall Street!”, and “Wars can be great!”, for example). And I make no bones about it; I voted for that. But I had planned all along to strongly oppose that part of the package. Rather than say “But I’m not a friend of bankers, how can you call me that?” I was going to use my words and my dollars and my feet to try to get the plan to drop the “Yay Wall Street” channel.
If you bought the “MAGA” plan and truly aren’t happy about the Racism channel being in there, just saying “Eh, I didn’t want that channel; it just came with the package” isn’t enough. Work to get it cut from the package or admit that it doesn’t bother you.

Re: The Cinemax Theory of Racism
So on that note, anyone who supports Hillary supports terrorist countries who murder, or treat women and LGBT people like garbage. We can go on and on, each candidate had some serious flaws. In the end, it's all about what our priorities are in a candidate and that's how we all voted. Does not mean we support every single negative thing they stand for. Racism may be high on your list, it may not be for other people. Someone who is struggling from an economic standpoint, but does not have concerns about racism as a top priority, is going to vote based on their list of priorities. While it may be ideal in your mind for people to have the same priorities as you, it's just not the way voting works. People vote based on list of priorities, since no candidate was perfect, for any of us I am sure.

Your privilege is showing. Opposing racism should be at the top of everyone's list.
You don't know my economic struggles. I still voted my conscience.

Here we go again. Sorry, you can't and didn't convince all of America to share your view and vote the way you did. That's how you prioritized, that's how I prioritized. End of discussion.

Is privilege your go to answer for everything. I was born white, sorry can't change that. So should I assume your privilege is showing as well since your candidate that voted for with your conscience is also racist, but just knows how to keep her comments out of the media? Lets not forget that Hillary was the one that released Obama's picture in his Muslim garb to try to convince people not to vote for him.
Just because you do not believe illegal immigrants should be in this country or you want stronger boarders does not make you a racist. I could care less what your sexual orientation is, what color you are or what religion you believe in but I do care that if you want to stay in this country and receive the benefits of this country you need to want to be a citizen. There is so much that needs to be fixed in this country with our own citizens, homeless, veterans, the hungry, clean water, the list goes on and on and people seem to forget about them because everyone is so concerned about helping people that do not go through the correct channels to stay here.

Yes. I also want to point out something I just read this morning from Mike Rowe. He pointed out that people are referencing this election and Trump having won due to a large population of white non college educated males (who are then accused of and presumed to be racist). He made a great point to say this was the media pushing this sentiment to discredit this population and their vote. Yet, Obama won due to an even LARGER population of non college educated BLACK males voting for him. Yet you do not hear the media run with that, discredit that population and accuse them to also be racist. That's not fair at all for it to only go one way, when you are white you are racist but not when you are another color skin.It is what it is! People vote for candidates they feel represent them best, whatever their reasons are. And that is honestly people's given right, whether others like it or not.

So what should we call the bundle package one supports if voting for Hillary? "i don't torture women, i just take money from countries that do" and it comes with an extra channel "I'm above the rules and have my maid print classified email" and for being a loyal subscriber you also get "free college for those under $125K".
The argument can go both ways, it's just that some of you turn a blind eye to it....and that's what i consider privileged behavior, believing your ideas are so superior to others.

First, did you read the whole article?
Second, you really can't compare the two because there are a few degrees of separation.
Third, I don't think some of you understand the idea of privilege.

Maybe I don't understand your definition of privilege. But that's probably because every time you try to enlighten the rest of us, you spend 90% of the time name calling and saying obnoxious things like "your privilege is showing" You clearly can't see how patronizing that is, otherwise your realize that you lose your change to educate people because your attitude is so objectionable. If you were able to have a rational conversation you could probably make people see your point of view, but countless times you have called people racist, and most recently even more insulting things.
And your "degrees of separation" excuse, well really you are just trying to make yourself feel better about supporting someone that did horrible things and supports people that continue to do horrible things. You've developed a model by which you seem to judge everyone...now apply it to yourself and see how you fair.

Well, aren't you a peach!
Maybe if you could express yourself better, I could better understand you. I really don't understand.
I haven't used the privilege word very much; perhaps you have confused me with someone else? I guess that would be hard with your 100 posts.
My degrees of separation "excuse" isn't an excuse. If you did some critical thinking, you would understand this. Again, I haven't really seen an answer to any of the questions I asked you in a previous post. I'm sorry that being called a racist is uncomfortable for you. Or would you rather be called a "racist sympathizer"? It's your choice.
You voted for someone who directly promised racist things. Other candidates (on both sides) did not promise these things. He has not denounced the KKK support. He has made many statements against women and not taken responsibility. I guess by you saying I'm trying to make myself feel better makes it easier for you to pass the blame that you voted for someone who ran a racist campaign?
Have you even read the article?
ETA: I'm not posting this article to educate someone. I posted it because it's an interesting comparison.

A peach, I guess that's an upgrade from when you called everyone who voted for trump sh&t. A sign of a lot of self control. I'm done. i really can't imagine what it's like to walk around so self-righteous and angry. You can spend the next 4 years complaining about how 1/2 the county's voters are racist because they prioritize issues differently than you do. Enjoy!

The Cinemax Theory of Racism
I hear what klingklang is saying but I also see the other side. This is one of the hotly debated questions/assertions:
If you voted for Trump, does that make you a racist or supporting racism? (And sexism, and a whole lot of other "isms")
For some, yes. Many feel that even if you strictly voted for him due to economic polices for example, you're still supporting racism by proxy.
I can fully understand that argument. Like if you bought an apple tree with a rotten apple, you still bought a rotten apple even if you bought it for the other 10 good apples.
My issue with that argument is that Hillary also had a bunch of bad apples. And if you voted for her, you supported racism as well. Maybe not as outlandish and visible, but it is there. Her apples weren't visibly rotten, but they had worms inside. With her statements on super predators, the foreign $ from places that commit awful acts, etc.
I think that is what "the other side" is trying to say and that point may be a bit missed.
I didn't vote for either as (in part) i didn't want to support racism or sexism and such. And Hillary exhibited those types of things to me as well.
So I think it's ok and good to dissect the flaws of the candidates that were presented to us but I don't know if pointing fingers at one another will help in the short or long term.
