I think (hope) that now that he's elected, many of his more extreme policies will get eliminated/changed drastically. He's not building a wall across the entire US/Mexican border. It's just way too costly and impractical, so that's coming off the plate. The mass deportation project is also too cost prohibitive. He may make laws to make it easier to deport people, but a mass deportation can't happen. Repealing the ACA in the first 100 days also can't happen. Too many logistics involved, and it's cost prohibitive for a straight up repeal. Again, he'll definitely make significant changes to it, I think, but his "repeal and replace" plan isn't going to happen as he promised.
A lot of his ideas would cost a huge amount of money, and he's not going to want to be the President who doubles the debt again, on boondoggle projects. He's going to have to temper his plans and be more pragmatic about what can be accomplished.

Unfortunately, I believe you're right. His entire presidency will have an underlying aura of hatred and bigotry not seen before with any other president. Even if he is able to become a decent president, because he allowed and promoted hatred to get elected, I think it will always be associated with him, and race relations will be at an all time low.

A friend of mine posted his "100 Day Plan".  I think he's a bit disillusioned at to just how much power a president has. These things he's proposing will take SO much time to even get through Congress, if they even approve any of it, and will cost a TON of money. I think his plan sounds so impractical but I will reserve my full judgement until he's in office. I wish I had more faith and hope in this presidency.

I said the same thing. He was all talk to rile his people up, but I think all in all, he won't go after half the stuff he says. But I'm glad about that.

Agree with both of you. The veil has already been lifted on the vile hatred just hours after the announcement of his presidency. What's to come? How do we even begin to heal this knowing that this hate has been brewing and waiting for his arrival? The image of this nation, as shaky as it already was to begin with, has been tarnished. I'm waiting fo his announcement denouncing this hateful behavior from the vast majority of his supporters. As Elizarags said, his silence speaks volumes.

Obama repeatedly spoke out against the violence in the country, against any victims (BLM, police, mass shootings, etc), and he was still blamed for allowing the violence to happen.
What happens when a president DOESN'T speak out against it?

While checks and balances should keep his most extreme (bigoted, bad, stupid, etc) policies from getting enacted, I think the underlying bigotry with which he ran and campaigned with will always exist.
I also think maybe his supporters will be 'surprised' when their taxes are not drastically cut, when there are still wars going on across the world, when terrorists still reign terror, and when jobs are still being outsourced or replaced by machines/robots. No matter what, he is not going to be a quick fix to "make America great again" so let's just hope he's smart enough to put capable people in his cabinet.

He has been blowing smoke up America's ass for a long time, way before he threw his hat into this election. I think his supporters are going to be really upset when they realize he isn't going to deliver on half the promises he made them. It's physically, financially impossible. How do you propose tax cuts across the board and simultaneously promise to boost the military to the monstrous proportions he claimed he could and would? How do you get something from nothing?

I loathe Donald Trump but I agree with GoldenRod and really hope this is the case. He HAS to dial back the rhetoric unless he wants an all-out civil war.
As much as I hate hate hate hate his ideas and everything he's claimed to stand for, I will say the tone of his speech yesterday was very different than any other time we've heard him speak so far so I am very cautiously optimistic that he isn't the monster he's acted like for the election cycle.

I think he'll find people- I have been hearing about Guiliani for AG, Newt Gingrich for State, maybe Ben Carson for Education and Sarah "Drill Baby Drill" Palin expressed interest in Interior. He will give his supporters good positions, I think. There is a law that he cannot give his children cabinet positions or I could have seen that happening.
