SAHMs of toddlers

What is your average day like? What do you do?

I am officially a SAHM for at least the next 16 months due to layoff and pregnancy so we pulled my dd out of daycare to save money.

I'm looking for things to do to keep us both occupied. I have already started printing worksheets for her so she doesn't fall and am looking up library programs.

I work part time but home with my son during the week a lot. We go to the park a lot, let's him burn off energy. We do an art class, sometimes toddler time at sky zone (he LOVES this). He loves to just go on errands to different stores. Pushes all the buttons at stew Leonard's, looks at the cats and dogs at petsmart

I have an almost 2yo and a 4.5 yo. We hang it in the morning, my kids need time to wake up as do I! We have breakfast and get ready, play, do crafts, I tidy up and start laundry. Some mornings we run errands, have play dates, do library programs, etc. It often depends on their moods, if they're really into what their playing I may stay in and if they're climbing the walls or making me nuts we get out the house!

Then we're home for lunch. I take my older one to school from 1230 to 3 and my lo naps that whole time. I have lunch, clean up, meal prep, finish the laundry, relax. After school we usually stay home and the girls play or DH takes them outside so I can get stuff done.

As for activities, we've done dance in the morning, library classes, Suffolk County farm classes. We go to the middle country library just to play bc they have a great kids area.

Re: SAHMs of toddlers

I'm only at home with the kids during the summer but when you need to do something the library is a good idea because they also can have free museum passes you can borrow. I know most have LICM ones. Also, as the weather gets cooler I would see which malls have free indoor play areas. I know broadway mall does and my kids like it. Not sure how old your toddler is but definitely checkout pinterest for any age. My mom gave my kids pipe cleaners and fruitloops to string on them the other day and could not believe how long they played with it. I've also had luck with writing/alphabet/number workbooks from dollar tree.

I'm home over the summer. I try to keep us busy otherwise DS would watch TV 24/7.

We usually do breakfast, get ready, clean up and are out of the house by 9:30. We'd go to the beach, park, library, grocery store, play date, etc. We'd be home around 12/12:30 for lunch and then he'd nap from 1-? When he got up, we'd go to the pool if it wasn't too late. If it was too late, he'd help me make dinner.

my DS is 6 now, and in school all day, but i've always been a SAHM. When he was younger, we did the park as long as it was even a little bit warm outside LOL library have great stuff, like you said.
also- i live in NJ, but theres a couple gymnastics places near me that offer "mom and me open play" during the week. its like $8 a kid for the hour, and they can just kind of run around and run off some energy. its not a class, and you don't have to commit to being there every week... so its nice. so maybe theres a place that does that near you? and a lot of the jump places have toddler time like that during the week, too. with the holidays coming up, maybe ask somebody to get her a membership to a kid's museum or something near you, so you can take her whenever without paying each time Chat Icon You'll meet other moms i'm sure to get together with, too. and my son still loves just running errands, checking out stuff at the stores or the mall or whatever.

This is basically us too. We spend very little time at home or we both go stir crazy.

SAHMs of toddlers

My average day consists of me trying to clean while they destroy another room. Also trying to make important phone calls during the day without someone having a meltdown or the dog barking or someone screaming that their ass needs to be wiped. When my husband comes home at 4 o'clock then I usually throw them at him and start cooking dinner while drinking wine. Then at dinner I drink more wine. Then my husband takes them upstairs for their baths while I clean the kitchen and drink some more wine. Then I go upstairs to read books and say prayers and then I begin my day. You know things like going on the internet and just reading a book or a magazine or catching up on a TV show.
To sum it up, wine. Lots of it. Chat Icon

Thanks. I just looked up sky zone and that looks perfect. I just bought the Groupon for wood kingdom too and I'm checking out all the libraries near me. Book Review in Huntington has toddler time every Thurs so we will head over there.

Try your town library also. They have fun activities, events, and crafts for toddlers.

I took a year off with both my kids so we did everything. We went for walks in the neighborhood, parks, pool, beach, stayed in yard etc...

I'm not a morning person so I generally take my time in the morning. My DD gets on the bus at 9 and then my DS and I relax, watch cartoons, play some games together. Then I get dressed and we run errands, or go to the park sometimes, or meet up with my mom and go shopping. Occasionally I'll sign him up for things like the Mommy and Me class at Benners Farm. I don't have very structured days, sometimes we're out and about, sometimes we're home all day. Just depends on the day.

Sky zone is a lot of fun and the employees are fantastic. They play with the kids and are so nice. We get there and my son says "oh my guys are here!" Lol
